And Into Your Your Courts With Praise.

LORD, we thank You for this Epic Story,
Which is so timeless and full of insight into our frail human character.
We Thank You profoundly for Your Word,
Which gives us a look into Your heart!
We Thank You For Your Covenants,
Which are Forever.
We Thank You For Your Law,
The Foundation of Our Republic.
We Thank You For Messiah,
May He Come Quickly and Set All Things Right!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This is yet another time someone miscalculates David's reaction to "virtue-signaling", and it won't be the last.

The first instance was the Amalakite who, in reporting Saul's death to David, embellished his story to include himself as the "mighty warrior" who did the deed. I'm sure he thought that, by making himself out to be the killer of David's arch-enemy, he would get a big reward. David's reaction was totally unexpected, and I'll bet the Amalakite really regretted his lie.

Next we have David's reaction to the murder of Abner. While Abner may have been responsible for the death of Joab's brother, it was in the heat of battle and not personal. Yet, Joab kills Abner for revenge, and thinks he is doing David a favor. However, David sees it differently, and curses Joab and his descendants forever.

Now we have this sordid murder of Ish-Bosheth, a son of Saul. Even though Ish-Bosheth had been a threat to David's rule, he had lost heart and had been rendered harmless. However, two glory-seekers sneaked into Ish-Bosheth's bedroom at night and murdered him in his sleep. (Really brave...and it took TWO of them). Thinking that this would endear them to the King, they brought Ish-Bosheth's head to David. But they did not get a medal. Once again, David's reaction was contrary to the norms of the culture.

We still see this type of behavior, especially with the proliferation of social media. Sometimes it is a real situation, sometimes an embellished tale, and sometimes an out-and-out hoax. But the motivation is always "Look what I did! Aren't I WONDERFUL (or Brave, or Oppressed, or a Victim, or a Hero). As we see from our study of the Scriptures, this is not new. As we become more and more wise to the ways of "Virtue-Signaling", the hoaxers will face more and more severe consequences. In David's judgement, the hoaxer faces the same judgement as if he was an actual perpetrator. That's very harsh, but it does make someone think twice!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)

God Bless America!

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

Morgan Bible - MS M.638, fol. 38v – 13th Century

Upper Half: How those two murderers of Ish-bosheth offer his head to David, as if they had done him a great service. Nevertheless, the king, having cursed their crime, has them killed and later hanged with their hands and feet amputated. (2 Samuel 4: 8–12)
Lower left: How, after the death of Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, all the tribes and all the elders of the people unanimously come together to David and anoint him to be a king over all of Israel. (2 Samuel 5: 1–3)
Lower right: How David goes to Jerusalem and takes the citadel of Zion which was thereafter known as the city of David. (2 Samuel 5: 6–9)

. when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.

And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon
a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin.
And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.

And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.

And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

Amen. Pride and men pleasing are ugly, insidious parts of the old man. Why must they be so hard to totally rout out until the are never seen again.
