Kristine Johnson essentially wants her family, including her husband, to get a $9.5 million reward for sexually abusing a child. It’s a civil suit, but the judge should throw her in jail until she develops a conscience. Will take a long time.

2017 ORS 40.260¹ Rule 506. Member of clergy-penitent privilege

(2) A member of the clergy may not be examined as to any confidential communication made to the member of the clergy in the member’s professional character unless consent to the disclosure of the confidential communication is given by the person who made the communication.

(3) Even though the person who made the communication has given consent to the disclosure, a member of the clergy may not be examined as to any confidential communication made to the member in the member’s professional character if, under the discipline or tenets of the member’s church, denomination or organization, the member has an absolute duty to keep the communication confidential. [1981 c.892 §35; 1999 c.7 §1]

In U.S. law there is a principle that some communcations are beyond the power of the state to compel testimony, such as between spouses or the confessional.

They don’t have a priest/pastor in their “churches” so no confidentiality between them.

You can denigrate the Mormon church as not a real religious institution, but I'll take this reaction to child molestation over the Catholic church's every single time. You diddle a kid, you go to jail. You find out someone else is a kid diddler, you tell the police. You hide the fact that you know someone else diddles a kid, you go to jail. No exceptions for clergy, lawmakers, members of the British Royal family, or former Presidents.

bible tells us to abide by (obey) the laws of land we live in. so a priest not telling authorityies would be going against the bible - God’s word. Romans 13. unless priests bibles don’t include Romans 13?

The dude’s been arrested, tried, convicted and is in stir for 15 years. What does the missus think can be kept secret at this juncture? I’d say she has no case.

There is no place in the Bible that says that any laws of men should supercede God’s law. You going to break the 10 Commandments because local law says to? You think God wants you to?

That’s pretty much the case. They couldn’t just reassign him to another parish like a Catholic priest.

Yeah, well disgusting filth who protect pedophiles over children drive those victims away by what they falsely demonstrate the values of God to be.

Spare us all your ill thought and indefensible platitudes.

Driving away how many eternal souls each predator mutilates so you can minister to those who rape them and devour their innocence.

Here’s a thought. Does the dude have OTHER wives besides the complainant?

Ok if Catholics leaders decide to follow God’s law first and America second, then it’ll be cool to define them as American outlaws.

If a priest knew about pizzagate? Epstein Island? Jeffrey Dahmer? You think God wants them to sit there silent, and maybe just offer some encouragement to go talk to the law? That is found nowhere in the Bible, even in the red letter words of Jesus himself.

Jesus would have treated them like the money changers in the temple.

That Oregon law says the member of the clergy may not be examined. It does not say the member of the clergy is prohibited from making a voluntary report of a pervert.

Jesus fully agrees with me. Let the SOB. repent in a prison cell. You can have 15 or 20 years to get his soul right

Which of the Ten Commandments does it violate to report a pedophile to the police?

The Mormon church has learned the hard way that covering up sex abuse by church leadership is not a good move. There was a time when the Mormon church regularly intimidated victims and their families into not reporting the abuse to law enforcement. Not saying the coverups were limited to the Mormon Church, but no one should argue the Mormons have not had a serious problem with hiding sex abuse.

“ n the Roman Catholic faith the seal of the confessional is sacrosanct. A priest literally CAN NOT go to the authorities and tell them what he heard in confession.”
And therein lies the problem. A penitent should not approach the confessional unless they are prepared to pay retribution. A priest should not absolve unless the penitent agrees to provide retribution.

It seems wrong that a priest can know of a potentially ongoing crime against children and not report it. I understand not reporting every crime from the past but when it involves serial murder or rape, or child molestation, I’m ok with the priests reporting. I’d rather save innocent kids than one a-hole’s soul.

Just spitballin’ here: Maybe the Mormons can give her a temporary husband until the frst husband fnishes his sentence. Must be at least one guy out there who would take the job for a lot less than $9million.
Set up an aucton site and see what happens. /s
