I don’t take part in polls. How valid is this poll. I really do not care to give my religious views to strangers.

Real Bible study would find Jesus admonished more times in total than He ever said words of “nice” and be “nice.”

He also talked about Hell and damnation more than love.

Matthew 24:12-13 (NIV2011)
12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,
13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

The Christian Post isn’t transparent about its ownership, is it?

Interesting....

2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

“In times past, we preached that sinners were wretched and that grace was amazing. Today we tell sinners they are amazing, making grace a needless afterthought.

In times past, we preached a gospel of salvation. Today we preach a gospel of self-improvement.

In times past, we preached death to the flesh, death to self, and death to sin, pointing to a brand new life in and under Jesus. Today, we preach that Jesus came so you could fulfill your dreams, that He came to make you into a bigger and better you.

We used to preach the gospel of self-denial. Today we preach the gospel of self-realization.

And sadly, it is Pentecostals and Charismatics who have often led the way in preaching this so-called gospel message.”

This. All of this. The “special snowflake virus” has overwhelmed so many of today’s churches. As a Methodist Christian, I speak from sad experience.

P&Cs trust their feelings more than the Word.

The leap toward apostacy began when emotions became their measure of truth. Now they’re just crazy and shallow.

I really like Ray Comfort's (Living Waters) method for explaining the Gospel to the lost. I think he does a great job of explaining to people that they in fact are "not special" (in spite of what their mothers tell them) and that we all need a Savior.

He also believes that the 20th Century evangelism methodology is why there is such a large "falling away" within American churches.

The poll probably distorts and exaggerated, but there may be some truth in it. Older people dying. Younger people spending too much time on their phones. That makes the US less religious than it was 10 years ago. The Bernie Sanders thing didn't help much either.

Western Europe lost religion when the consumer society came in. America already had mass consumption and was already more affluent than Europe, so consumerism didn't diminish America's religiosity. Social media, though, may be another story.

Religion does run in cycles in the US, though. There are periodic revivals or Great Awakenings when piety peaks and then there are the low points in between. The Fourth (or Fifth) Great Awakening began in the 1970s (if not earlier), so we are due for a trough and eventually a revival.

Early in the Pentecostal movement, many of the pastors were originally Baptists. Those pastors had a solid foundation of scripture and taught the scriptures. Once they died out, many were replaced with leaders who replaced teaching with preaching. Doctrine was replaced with emotional alter calls. And most of the alter calls have nothing to do with repentance or salvation.

I’d love to attend a charismatic church if I could find one that taught the scriptures and kept the music volume under control. Doesn’t exist any more.

I don’t understand why these two are lumped together; they’re nothing alike.
