The key here is how one defines “evangelical.” Are Mormons, “evangelical?” Are Jehovah Witnesses, “evangelical?” Are members of denominations like PCUSA or ELCA, “evangelical?”
Are even those that attend Joel Osteen’s church, “evangelical?”

If one does not believe Jesus is not God, then one is not an evangelical Christian. If one does not believe Jesus is who the Bible says He is, then one is not a Born Again Christian, and, thus, not an evangelical Christian.

Yes, C. S. Lewis addressed this long ago with the Liar, Lunatic or Lord argument.

More than half of American adults, including 30% of evangelicals, say Jesus isn’t God but most agree He was a great teacher, according to results from the 2020 State of Theology survey.

He is God's son, he is not God.

Where exactly does it say in the bible Jesus proclaims himself God?

That same heresy has been around since the beginnings of Christianity. Sad.

Many churches no longer even mention scriptures.

Look at Joel Olsteen and all his yoga mumbo jumbo. It’s all about “feelings” and climate change.

Heck, the Pope never even mentions Jesus Christ during his left wing rants.

I’m Catholic - and I could say that the one parish I came from in Indiana — a large % are leftist leaning idiots. They will take communion - vote Democrat - and never stand against abortion ... It starts within the family and what the mother & father teach the children. If the schools try to change that, the parents again need to step in and correct it... so much of that is not occurring.

It’s probably been the case for a long time. Just that right now it’s out in the open.

Another indication of the tremendous success of the Satan Council of the RCC (1962-1965), the goal of which was to destroy the Catholic Church, and consequently the entirety of the Christian faith throughout the world. Thus the identification of it as the Satan Council!

Believe whatever you wish, but due to your denial of the reality of the Trinity, the most fundamental doctrine of the Christian Faith, you should acknowledge that you are not a Christian in the historical and universally accepted understanding of that designation.

So you say the Evangelicals are going the way of the Unitarians and the Jehovah’s Witnesses in denying the divinity of Christ.

There are already the Oneness Pentecostals who deny the Trinity. The next step is denying the divinity of Christ. So 30% of evangelicals are already there...

Marlowe - this is the ultimate end of Sola scriptura - and I'm saying that if you look at it historically. The self interpretations lead ultimately to the denying of Christ's divinity as seen in the case of
1. the Unitarians - until the 1950s they were Christian enough for us to hold Eisenhower as a Christian.

The Pentecostals already have the Oneness Pentecostals who deny the Trinity, so I wouldn't be surprised if the 30% come largely from that group.

It is inevitable that the ss encourages "progressiveness"

(”So, at least 30% of all Evangelicals are not Christian. Nor are they Evangelicals”)

I am not surprised.

When I visit a new church I make it a point to determine whether the people I speak to are saved. Do they know the gospel? What have they believed? What are they relying on to save them? It’s revealing.

I think the reason there are so many unsaved among the group that calls themselves Christian is due to several factors — (1) church as a place for unbelievers vs church as a place to equip the Saints to share the gospel; (2) similarly church as a fun center; (3) biblical ignorance; and (3) false doctrines and false gospels.

On this very thread I have shared exchanges with one who doesn’t believe that Jesus as God incarnate is an essential element of the gospel. Where do people get such notions?

Another one for you...

If Jesus is not God, then it can be said that mankind has demonstrated a higher form of love for man than God has,
for Jesus Himself said that no greater love exists than when a man lays down his life for a friend.

“Jesus” is just a word and can mean anything you want it to mean. I don’t really believe that these unbelievers within the “evangelical” churches are unaware of what they are doing, I do think that believers are fooled and tricked into treating them as if they were our brothers and sisters in Christ by their usage of the word “Jesus”.

Matthew 7:22!

Well, that’s a good start.

I find it quite humorous that the Christian communtity believes that the esoteric aspects of biblical teaching, as truth, are unique with no other historic precedent prior to Christianity as a structured religion. Bear in mind that I use the term “structured” loosely, as there is anything but uniformity within the belief system that is Christianity.

Don’t get me wrong, Christianity, and the Bible as a religious text is a great place to start for anyone who has no scintilla of spirituality in his life, but stopping there is like believing that the only source of food is your refrigerator. But but but the Bible says that there is only one way...just like many other religious texts and cult/occult material.

I mean no I’ll feelings in saying what I have and respect each of you for the spiritual path you have chosen. It’s much more than those who only acknowledge the physical, limited reality that people see in front of them.
