Now there is a man with thought and learning.
I was assisting at an “AA” type meeting and a young lady that was in recovery shared how she had started attending church and heard the story of Jonah. She said it really related to her. As she was street wise and tough she described in her own words Jonah’s attempted “escape” and God saying to Jonah, “Now wait just a minute M*****F*****, you’re not going anywhere till you do my will”. She said it was similar to her recovery experience. Great witness but not something Greg Laurie would probably use. :) In any event, whether a real story or not, Jonah still can affect people’s lives thousands of years later.
P.S. I still laugh about it.
RE: “Now wait just a minute M*****F*****”,
OK, this is going a bit too far....
RE: Jonah died in the belly of the whale and was resurrected (by God).
I don’t know if he died, scripture doesn’t say, but here is what Scripture tells us — HE WAS PRAYING WHILE INSIDE THE BELLY OF THE BIG FISH:
Jonah 2
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2 He said: In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. 5 The engulfing waters threatened me,the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit. 7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. 8 Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from Gods love for them. 9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, Salvation comes from the LORD. 10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
You have to understand the moment, she was so street tough and she said this in such nonchalant way, I was not offended. Her life story was pretty tough but she was on the road to recovery (although some lessons on the use of the King’s english would be a good thing).
bible believers were lectured for years for believing in the virgin birth.
In the New World of transgenders it’s no big deal.

The Omnipotent, righteous loving God that formed the universe at his command?
Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at Gods command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
