This is a completely different subject, but proof of life on other planets? No. In fact, the more we learn, the more it appears as though planets like ours are not only very rare, but downright freakish. There are dozens if not hundreds of factors that all have to be exactly right. We could very well be the only one in the entire galaxy with life, at least above the microbial level.

“Except we have clear, undeniable proof that life can arise on a planet. We have no such support for a deity.”

There is life on this planet. There is no demonstrated proof in science that life arose with or without the help or direction of a deity.

To say there is no support for such a deity is pretty much the same as saying that because we have life, then there is your support for such a deity. For scientific purposes the question can’t be argued true or false, thus it is up to each person’s explicit and implicit biases to decide for themselves! You can say “no God did this”...but that is your own biases speaking. You didn’t get to that decision by logic and reason alone...the scientific method doesn’t allow it!

I heard one preacher declare If it was good enough for Paul it’s good enough for me

As if. What an idiot

“But to say “science = witchcraft” because of some bad examples is like saying all Germans are evil.”

Actually that’s a great example. Just like all the Germans who knew what the Nazis were doing and didn’t condemn them WERE evil, so all scientists who know these unethical practices are going on and don’t condemn them are also evil.

“ This is a completely different subject, but proof of life on other planets?”

Perhaps you misspoke but I challenge you to find any responsible scientist claiming proof of life on another planet. It is, however, eminently reasonable to cite our own planet as proof that life exists on a planet. It is further reasonable to extrapolate that, however rare, life may exist on one or more other planet. Keep in mind how vast just our Galaxy is. If the sun were the size of a proton, the galaxy would be the size of the continental US. There are 200 billion galaxies at a minimum. There is an awfull lot of real estate out there.

“ You can say “no God did this”...but that is your own biases speaking. ”

Which I never said. Instead, what I contend is there exists not a shred of actual proof that would hold up in traffic court for the hypothesis behind any of the 40,000 entities worshipped by humans as gods. I accept that there is no proof to the contrary either. Absent proof, I remain unconvinced and defer to Occam’s razor.

Irrespective of whether life arose by the act of a deity or a warm tidal pool, the fact that it did arise makes conjecture about life on other planets within the realm of the reasonable.

“We have no such support for a deity.”

Split hairs if you wish but I did quote what you said.

Occam’s razor should give you no support. He was a Christian .an English Franciscan Monk and a pretty smart guy for the 14th century! He would point out that in the vast closed system such as the universe...there is no smoke without a fire.

Yes there is proof that life is possible on this planet, but you can't use a single example to form a statistical estimate--even though there are between 10^23 and 10^24 stars in the known universe. What are the odds that a planet capable of life is possible, and also be stable for billions of years? We don't know. But it's increasingly looking like it's very unlikely.

Science versus scientism, good distinction. We see a lot of scientism these days: Human fetuses are mere blobs of tissue, man-made global warning boils the ocean, we are evolving into gods, etc. Creepy stuff.
