He was a patriot who believe in his cause.

Indeed he was. One must know the history years before to understand that it wasn't an easy decision for some to have to choose sides. What they saw was the ideals of the founding fathers eroding away.

It is my belief that they understoond better than we considering the country wasn't that old at the time. They knew and understood very well the way this country was meant to be.

Just as we see the erosion continue today, they saw it early and tried to stop it.

His speeches in the Senate were distinguished for their frankness in portraying the dangers of sectionalism.

The Davis speeches that I have read are very clear and well-written. I wish I could have heard him speak.

I've seen "The Matrix" a few times. I own the video. Was disappointed in the second one and haven't seen the third.

I'm a fan of the original, good Sci-Fi, IMHO.

I didn't break it, I was offline and asleep before then.
Besides, 'darkshearesfault' isn't a keyword anywhere on any new threads today.

"If only we were lucky enough to never hear from either of the Clinton's again."

Life is not so kind...as long as the Clintons are alive and walking FRee, the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd will follow their every move and quote their every utterance. What better argument is there fer holding them accountable fer their felonious behavior?! LOL!!

But as long as the DespoticDuo is out there, we might as well use their presence to smear the DemonRATS and make the RATS' presence in DeeCee as small as possible...that's why I foresee a major blowout in November, with Bush's coattails leading to expanded GOP majorities in the House and Senate!!

FReegards...MUD

Morning Walt.

Our Founding Fathers could be considered traitors too. They rebelled against the legitimate oppressive government of their day.

Discounting the firebrands and troublemakers of the time, a lot of people had a tough choice to make. I don't imagine it was an easy decision. I didn't live in those times, but from my reading of them, I believe a lot of people made that decision after a lot of soul searching.

The South was not trying to overthrow the Federal Government, they wanted to leave what they felt was a government that was no longer following the principles that it was founded upon.

Davis may fit the dictionary definition of a traitor but I don't think you can describe him as a bum by any stretch of the imagination.

Sadly, I look at my Country today and believe in my heart there is no better place on Earth, but based on the overbearing Federal and State bureaucraies, alphabet agencies and, IMHO, unconstitutionally, usurped authority that our government has imposed on us, I would not want to be put into the postion of having to decide which side to take if States decided to try to secede. I realize State Pride does not exist like it did in the past (especially in the North) but I find it hard to disparage the type of government most Southerners were willing to fight for.

I'm wishing for a +20 'dispel demon' scroll to get rid of the hideous 'hillabeast' that has taken residence within 57 miles of me.
It has a -14 frigid field, and a ZONE of IMPOTENCE (-17 against males) as well as the power of ICY STARE. (-9)

Where's a good Paladin when you need one?
/ bad RPG geek joke.

States Rights vs Federal government were argued before and during the War for Independence. Our Constituition limited Federal powers.

Lincoln killed the 10th Amendment and really got us started on the road to a powerful, overbearing Federal government

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Don't think we can blame it on Snippy. I think the picture of Kerry on the bicycle did it.
