It was our first time. To give you a brief background, Sam and I recently went into business together. We own a "Wild Bird Center" here in Oregon. Part of our community involvement includes "loaning" ourselves out so to speak or provide items for charity.
The local elementary teachers came around asking for volunteers in their program "Read Across America". They were kindergarten through 6th grade. They assigned us to the library in a corner, had gym pads on the floor for the kids to sit around and we read three books to them.
You could volunteer at any local school I'm sure and they'd be glad to have you read anytime. We're looking forward to doing it on a regular basis.
For St. Patrick's Day we will be part of a community "Irish Stew Cook Off" to raise money for a local youth center.
We also have a speaking engagement to a local Christian Business Women's group in a couple weeks. We've already spoken at the local Kiwanis.
And we've only been open 2 months!!!
It's all part of being an eviil capitalist. ;-)
Mornin' AJC. Good to see you.
Excellent Word today Mayor. Thanks.
Awwww. This is an adorable flag-o-gram today. Thanks PE.
Well said tomball and so very true. God Bless ALL our troops.
Thanks for the Linebacker II presentation.
Often used to drive out to Fairchild AFB just to watch those B-52's and KC-135's flying in and out. Also had a BIL stationed there who was a engine mechanic.
Years later, my sis worked at the Officer's Club and became a welcoming committee of one for the crews flying in and out of Fairchild. A real cheerleader, she, and at a time when America shunned and spat upon the Armed Forces.

Hiya Sam
I don't have any of these, but I do have a $1 Silver Certificate. I was in Wyoming several years ago backpacking. Before hitting the trail, I bought a couple of paperbacks at a used book store, and received the note as part of my change.
Howdy ma'am

Some things never change.
A few of my family members and friends were in that war, too. What they saw and had to endure was never "authorized" for print, and even if it were you could bet the Johns and Janes would cut it off at the press.
Not much has changed over the years except maybe the Johns and Janes are worse. A peace keeping soldier can be tortured and dragged through the streets by cheering thugs, or beheaded by terrorists without reproach or world outrage. Socialist sympathizers and liberal reporters tell the story from their biased point of view as "a matter of fact." But, let the same soldier "humiliate" a terrorist, and it is considered politically incorrect, a breach of the Geneva Convention, and is deemed as war story so horrible that the press makes sure it is worthy of world outrage.
The double standard has been around far too long for a long, long time.
Wow Snippy! All those things sound wonderful! I hope that you and Sam enjoy this. The "Wild Bird Center" sounds really cool... I would like to check that out. But, also all the events and engagements that ya'll are involved in are wonderful.
I have to admit that most of my last 4 years living in North Texas have been spent hating this area - but mainly because I was so involved in community projects and charitable organizations back home in central Texas that it feels like I have *NO* life here. Takes a while in a new area to get folks to accept you into those things I've found. At least it does here. Back home we took all the warm bodies for help that we could get!
One of the biggest things that I have missed is teaching in a program we had for taking city kids out to teach camping and outdoor survival skills. Now that I'm planning to move to Alabama to be near my grandkids *they* are going to be my guinea pig kids for outdoor learning.
I am also counting on opportunities to help out occasionally in their schools and get my "reading to kids" time in again! :-)
All this is in my hopes anyway. :-)
Hey PE! Just about to leave for school again. One more night for me and this week's over. First week back to work post-surgery is a-okay. :-)
It'll be interestin to see how it turns out. We should know by late next week.
Thanks E.G.C.
every job is important. It takes a lot of good people to make a great team. The US has the best.
You got that right!
Afternoon DD.
The only time I've seen B-52's taking off or flying low was at air shows. Impressive! Had B-52 strikes near our positions (near being relative), we had to hold on to the ground to keep from fallin off. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of one of those.
