The movie "The Right Stuff" took a little licence with the events around the test flight program at Muroc. (Edwards...)
Yeager worked under Col. Albert Boyd in the program, along with flight engineer, Jack Ridley and back up pilot, Bob Hoover. Unfortunately you didn't get that sense in the movie.
Yeager was the most junior pilot among the test pilots, but his common sense and mechanical ability sold Boyd on Yeager. Skip Zeigler, A NACA test pilot, wanted more money for flying the X-1 before Bell turned the project over to the Air Force.

It's great to watch the Eagles do side by side landings at PDX.

IN all honesty, if she'd had braces, did her hair, and had contact lenses or different glasses, she woudn't have been half bad.
Instead, she never got braces, kept her hair in jerry curls, and wore these thick framed thick lensed glasses.
(She was adopted, and her adoptive parents treated her poorly. One reason she did the wood nymph sashay before the windows.)

Why do scenes from "Town Without Pity" keep flashing through my mind?

Like your tag-line.
Just watched the DVD of The Two Towers last night, along with the sneak preview of The Return of the King, due out in December.
Sam is looking more like the hero, as is Pippin, in the next movie.
The consensus is that the last movie will be the best.
Blows Star Wars out of the water, in regards to sequels.

PDX?
Eagles?... F-15's?
AM ENVIOUS.
The F-15's have been flying over the house like crazy over the past week.
They've been rattling more than just a few dishes in the ole homestead.

Portland Oregon.
We have a unit of the Air National Guard stationed there. There seem to be Eagles taking off or landing all the time. :-)

Could've been worse.
All teh guys who 'first had sex', started with Cindy.
She was quite willing to remove that 'curse' from young men.
"The Scarlet Letter" mixed with "Town Without Pity", and maybe a little of Vincent Price's "The Last Man On Earth" would be a better description.

My favorite part of the movie, "Morgan, come out! We're going to kill you, Morgan!"
And he's just sitting there listening to his music and drifting off to sleep.

Science fiction, the end of the world and vampires, it doesn't get much better.

And it wasn't a popular movie.

I noticed that some of the best movies aren't the popular ones.

Vincent Price in "Fall of the House of Usher".
Yeah, some of the best movies aren't popular ones.
Like the Dr. Phibes series.
They were supposed to be funny, irreverent and satirical.
More often, people found them to be fluff, cerebral(?), and 'archaic'.

1st Armored Division Dedicates Dining Facility to Bob Hope
BAGHDAD, IraqTask Force 1st Armored Divisions dining facility was dedicated to Bob Hope in a ceremony Aug. 24 at Baghdad International Airport.
Today we honor one of our own, a truly great friend of Americas soldiers, Bob Hope, said Brig. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, 1st AD commanding general.
Hope, one of televisions most renowned comedians and actors, worked in Vaudeville, radio, film, television, and most prominently as a United Services Organization (USO) entertainer. He spent much of World War II traveling the world to entertain allied troops, a service he performed with gusto during wars in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East. His entertain-the-troops tours became his enduring signature.
For several generations of soldiers, Bob Hope brought us a piece of home, an infectious smile, great entertainment, and a brief break from the rigors of combat, said Dempsey. Wherever there were U.S. soldiers in harms way, Bob Hope was there with them. In the Pacific Islands, the hills of Korea, the jungles of Vietnam, and the sands of Desert Storm, Bob Hope was there.
Hope died July 27 shortly after his 100th birthday, Staff Sgt. Robert S. Potter Jr., an imagery analyst with Headquarters and Headquarters Operations Company, 501st Military Intelligence Battalion, and Spc. Omid P. Zehtab, a tanker assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st ADs noncommissioned
officer and soldier of the year, unveiled the sign and the plaque, officially dedicating the dining facility to Bob Hope. The dining facility, which is currently open 24 hours, serves chow to thousands of 1AD soldiers daily.
This will be a place for soldiers to relax, joke with friends, tell stories and watch a little football, said Dempsey. It will host the USO shows that Bob made famous, and it will help keep those smiles on the faces of the next generation of American soldiers, doing their duty far from home.
