Hasn't anyone tried to rename this planetary butt of jokes?WHY was it named YOURANUS in the first place? I'd like to know.

Those aren't moons and we didn't see them earlier because they weren't there earlier. Uranus would be a convenient parking orbit for the interstellar mother ship for a long term survey of our solar system.
Now, does anyone on this thread know the two names originally applied to Uranus before the German astronomical yearbook editor suggested we keep consistent with Greek mythology?
I won't make you wait, but I will make you look. From our friends at JWR:

Anyone want to speculate on what that dark circle is at the bottom of Uranus? It's a mountain, to be named "The Dingleberry"

Uranus? Is that the one with the rings?

What do the Starship Enterprise and Charmin toilet paper have in common?
They both circle Uranus looking for Klingons.

In case you're seriously asking, it's named after the Roman God of the Oceans, a direct rip of Poseidon from Greek Mythology. All the planets are named after Roman deities. Uranus is a really, really big one (okay, so I couldn't keep it totally straight, sue me).

Assuming you're serious I can only speculate it has something to do with the Greek word for "heaven." Actually, come to think of it, that would be very logical if a gay guy named it.

How do they know how many moons are circling my anus? Have they been peeping?

Georginian Sidus, George's Star, after the reigning King George III at the time of it's discovery, or Herschel, after it's discoverer. Read the article, it's interesting (at least to me) ;^>
I've always liked Planet Herschel. Makes me hope for planet Harpo, or something like that.

I may be wrong, but I think the fact they do orbit a planet rather than a sun is the sole factor in calling them moons.

George Carlin says those "little moons" in Uransus
should be called
