stout rope

Is that a new synthetic?
How does it compare to Nylon or kevlar?

Actually I wasn't tough on the waiter at all.

Poor choice of words on my part, perhaps. Just trying to convey that it is an extremely common usage when referring to Walleye, even though technically incorrect.

Ok, so the block and tackle was "visible", but the hauling truck driver still swears that the man didn't use it. :-)

Legends like that become born because of a multitude of things.

Why would anyone devote their life to building something like that? Answer: Because they can.

Why was he a private person and kept to himself? Answer: Because at one time he was badly beaten because someone thought he had hidden money.

Why did he only work at night? Answer: Gee, you think hauling large blocks of coral might be a little hot during a Florida summer?

Define 'modern concrete.' The Romans used concrete 2000 years ago.

I think leadpenny beat you to it on the turtle reference in his most excellent post #93, and I dunno what a quadim is, unless it's a genie... in which case there's another theory...

... and that, of course, brings up the question of what happened with the belly button ;-)

Y'know where pine nuts come from? Wooden soldiers.

"Known to locals as URBs, or Unexplained Resting Boulders..."

I thought that was pretty funny for some reason.
