Wow, I thought this was about Clinton's failure to nab him multiple times in the 90s, not some Tora-Bora tactical 20-20 hindsight hit piece.

...And if Carter did his job (which would've required a spine) the Soviets might not have been in Afganistan and OBL might have missed his "calling".

What is the difference between discussing this today or tomorrow? Your feelings?

It's so easy to second-guess the military after a major military operation. So, so easy.

And for all of those so SURE, that Bin Laden was still in Afghanistan before the US troops entered the country I say this:

They know nothing.

In fact, to imagine that the cowardly Bin Laden sat in his Afghan cave while US troops amassed on the northern borders strains credulity. The guy had a history of moving around, changing addresses, changing countries. And certainly plenty of travel money.

Again. The arm-chair nit-wit critics know exactly this:

Exactly nothing.

This "analysis" is mickey-mouse fantasy spun by girlie-men and posted by a former military girlie-chick.

Read the book "Masters of Chaos". It may give you an appreciation for the Special Forces and what they accomplished in Afghanistan. If Osama Bin Laden was in Tora Bora and did escape he probably had a very dirty diaper. To even find him in the terrain they were in was no small feat. It would appear the Special Forces were very, very close to taking him out. I'm not convinced yet that he isn't a rotting corpse in a cave.

From what I've seen, both W and his father have been far less inclined to meddle in military tactical decision making than Democrats. Mistakes will happen, but far more and far greater ones seem to occur when Democrats are in charge.

Don't you know that Presidents are responsible for all of the details in Military ops now? Hey where's that guy that insists that OBL died in Tora Bora??????

It's amazing that a so-called journalist and some third rate military people know the truth and tactics better than our military...

If true...'amazing' is not the word that best describes the whole affair.

I always like to read comments about absolute certainty using the words, overwhelming evidence especially from the CIA that organization of absolute knowledge. The words of "continue to believe" also exude confidence. This stuff about Tora Bora is all Monday morning quarterbacking. There is a ton of information that goes into making a decision concerning tactical and strategic decisions. I believe our military made the best decision with the info at their possession. If helicopters were flown in and people dropped off, since we are being hypothetical, let us say 1000's died because they did not know the location of caves entrances and were attacked from behind by Pakistan groups. Then that was a terrible decision. Our goal has been global terrorism and one man speaking truce from his hiding place is not the goal. Tora Bora was a tactical decision so it is made and we move on. By the way, what are the results of that decision, The Taliban is out of power, terrorists---reduced, training camps--gone, lost of life----reduced, Afganistan held free election ---priceless

While I would love for everyone to agree with everything I post it wont happen. Generally there isn't much well as you call it positive news in the Military Early Bird Brief, that I read every morning to see what my beloved and the rest of the military read overseas. I guess you now know how I feel most every day when I read it, thinking why our military had to read this trash day in and day out. But, you know I do post the many good works of our troops. Please take a moment to go way back in my posts.

While I hate to defend this, this is what our fine troops read all around the world. Ignore my threads if you do not like it. To not post does not make it so.

I will pray for my Commander In Chief, but, I will also pray with all my might for the fine men and women who are serving and have to read this on election day.

If Bill Clinton had taken any one of the three opportunities he had to capture of kill Osama we wouldn't be having this conversation and the World Trade Center would still be in business.

I clicked on this thread because I thought it was about Clinton's negligence.

You allow an opening here, that I am going to try and at least offer a thought. I do believe we did good getting rid of the Taliban. I believe with all I have that the mission was NOT outsourced. I also am keenly aware of the terrain and how difficult it is. While Iraq isn't as bad, it certainly gives one the idea.

OBL may or not be alive. I know they are going over the last video with will every new fangle deal that they have. Would I have preferred to apprehended OBL before we went to war, perhaps? But in the end, we have done much to take down the terror network, Saddam out of the picture is huge.

There will always be second guessing, like Monday quarterbacking but in the end we must accept what we have done and learn from it and go forward.

You might like to read something else I posted this fine election day:

Your vote will move the country foward or in reverse - Lets move it forward! (first vanity)

Let me guess you chose Franks. :)

My beloved bought his book and really raved about it so now I am about to sit and read it as well. As a matter of fact I think I will take it to the polling center in the event there is a long line to cast my ballot. First time voting in the state of Kansas so it should be interesting.

Beloved does give the book by Franks high reviews so if you get the chance pick it up or put it down for a holiday gift.

Yep, you guessed right. Not particularly because of any real bias but it has more to do with the tone of the article and the military "experts" quoted. However, I am going to pick up his book.
