...who was it that said being "black is an attitude?" What I found on Google didn't look like a quote I saw years ago...Sadly the people who believe that notion voted for the same people BYRD of the KKK--and all manner of other white gangstas from the Clintons on down--voted for in 2004.

A dose of the harsh world and the need to truly DEFEND life and limb is just what a lot of whiny spoiled born-in-relatively-safe-America white (and other) libs need.... I once worked in Orange County, CA with a far-Left femo-Libber. We had had a few warm (but civil) discussions pro/con guns, etc. She was into rock climbing with her live-in boyfriend. One day her SUV was broken into and all her expensive rappelling gear was stolen. I asked her, 'J..., now what do you think you'd do if you had a pistol?' Through clenched teeth and almost tears of rage, she said, 'I'd shoot 'em!'
I never felt the need to bring up the Second Amendment with her again....

"The Teeth of Liberty" used to describe the Second Amendment. You win the Writing Award for this post, KoRn. Congratulations."

Bull Conner NEVER, EVER had the right or even legitimate power to take your daddy's gun simply to ensure he would be unarmed.

The key word in your statement is legitimate. But the fact is, those with the guns have the power. Legitimate or not.

I suppose that we should ask Vickie Weaver if the actions taken by the feds at Ruby Ridge were legitimate. Of course, after the fact, Congress agreed that they weren't, and paid damages to Randy Weaver. But then it's too late.

I sure like and respect that great lady. President Bush was right to choose her for the assignments he has.

Although, at this point, I would certainly consider her for President in 2008, I am concerned that this Nation has not, as yet, grown beyond discrimination - racism. At least not enough to get her voted in.

I'm not an American yet even I get it.

The only thing I don't get is why Americans didn't arm themselves against the Klintoon I and II admins in order to overthrow it.

Absolutely correct about POWER vs. Legit. power...our guns are the insurance policy against illegitimate power....by individual criminals or governmental agencies....

Had those guns been registered, she argues, Bull Connor would have had a legal right to take them away

That doesn't necessarily follow. In any event he would not have had the legal right, nor even the legitimate power to take them away. It would be a clear violation of the 14th amendment. However it would have given him the ability to do so and that ability is not to be trusted with the likes of Bull Connor, Janet Reno or even AG Gonzales.

I saw it on FR awhile ago, a quote from one of the founding fathers (Ben Franklen?). Went something like:

A democracy is two wolves and a chicken vote on what's for dinner. Liberty is where two wolves and a chicken voteon what's for dinner, and the chicken is armed. Pretty much what Condi is writing about.

Great post!
Reading first-hand accounts like this only makes me scratch my head even harder when I try to figure out why the Democrats get such overwhelming support from American Jews. It's like the descendants of the German camps are saying, "Please give us gun control so that it will be easier for some future tyrannical government to herd us onto the boxcars."
Simply baffling.

(Well, it was actually a picture of The Rock, but maybe she won't know...)

I think she'd like a real life Texas Cowboy rather than a hollywierd type like "The Rock". If she has some young neices or great nieces, maybe TC could pick up one of those someday?

If possible, she's a bigger hawk about this war than I am, and she's got bigger cajones than anybody in Congress.

She's also got "The Look". You almost have to feel sorry for Jacque Chirac and Gerhard Schroeder. Almost.

My view is that Condi's childhood ordeals only made her stronger!

"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger". Condi doesn't look dead to me!

That is why I put the word "legitimate" in there. The Second Amendment was written to make sure that the government had only the powers granted them by the people.

We did arm ourselves, big time. But since there was an election coming up, we preferred to get rid of him that way. If he had refused to step down on Jan. 20, 2000, then would have been the time to take up those arms.

Rice / Santorum would be an awesome ticket.

My support for Santorum died on the day he endorsed Specter over Toomey for Senate.

You're right, but I'd still vote for her in '08. That wasn't a direct quote, but the authors interpertation of what she said. It may have lost something in the telling. She may be the only one in the Bush administration, I actually like!
