"The year after the Krakatoa eruption, it was quite cool here in NA. It was called
the year without a summer."

I'm no expert...but my understanding is that the "year without a summer" is
attributed to a massive eruption of another Indonesian volcano, Tambora.

So are you saying that Jesus erred when he told his disciples to flee from Jerusalem after seeing the abomination?

I'm not saying that at all. You're referring to Matthew 24:14-16... 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a] spoken of through the prophet Daniel(Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11)–let the reader understand– 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Jesus was referring to a time when the Gospel will be preached to the whole world. At that time, the Gospel had only been preached to a small part of Palestine by Jesus himself and his disciples. I can't really think of any nation today that hasn't at least heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, can you?

If Al Gore had been elected none of this would be happening.

You got to love the "competent" scientists over there who can't even tell when a volcano is erupting.

Yeah....some real smart ones there.

Simon Winchester appeared on The Dennis Prager radio show this week (in the aftermath
of the Sumatra quake/wave).
Winchester says he's now completing his book on the San Francisco earthquake of
1906; it should be out in October, 2005.

If we're agreed that Jesus wasn't mistaken, then why did he make such a big deal about when (after the abomination - a specific event, not a season or era) and where (into the mountains) his disciples should flee, if not to warn them about the coming tribulation, which they apparently were going to face?

What's the count on 5.0 and above quakes since the big one in the same general area? I have it over 50 more or less.

I generated a thread on this -- capturing data from Dec 24 to yesterday. Basically, even the M6+ and M5+ would be aftershocks.

They are in rapid decline in activity.

By UTC time, the earthquake/tsunami was about 00:58 time -- almost the start of the 26th UTC time.

By the end of the 26th, there was a 7.1, a few M6 and 25 M5.

Each day the number is going down rapidly.

I thought that volcanic eruptions caused global cooling?

Depends on whether they are in the northern or southern hemisphere.

See Post #20. Though the poster may not be much on religion, his/her science is excellent and info great.

Basically, this is a natural gas event, not a volcano erupting.

Thanks.

I understand. But I still don't recall a similar period of such higher magnitude aftershocks in my memory.

Good evening.

This catastrophe is unlike any other in human history because just about everyone can watch it unfold in living color in near real time. This magnifies the impact the disaster will have on the planet.

I think the real blame is on the MSM. Maybe Dan Rather is over there helping them report stories and pin memos from the USGS.

The same phenomenon allows global warming proponents to convince us all that "nothing like this has ever happened before". Personal memory is not much help in deciding how things have been, and human record keeping isn't much better. I'm as vulnerable as anyone, just have to keep reminding myself to get two or three forms of evidence before I buy in to the latest thing.

Have been subscribing to the USGS email list for quite a number of years. I just don't recall a similar sequence as manifested on that email list in all those years.

Thanks.
