2. I am not saying that President Bush doesn't bear ultimate reponsibility (which is possibly why Rod Paige has returned to Houston). However, your idea that Bush knew about this and signed off on it is as ridiculous as the left insisting that Rumsfeld knew about Abu Ghraib.
3. I don't personally think we need a huge DOE. We are stuck with it thanks to Carter, and eliminating it is darn near impossible, given that the Rats will stand up for it and whiny weak Republican squishes won't vote to disband it. If we are going to have a Department of Education, I want them to be frugal and not hire PR firms.
NO President (with the exception of micro-manager Carter) would review the workings of a sub-contractor to the Department of Education. It is ridiculous to think so.
Apparently you think that the president of Ford Motor Company is responsible for the embezzlement by a bookeeper at a dealership.
...hired by DOE to run ads for the NCLB Act featuring Rod Paige....
I'm confused by this. If this is about accepting ads how is that different than accepting an army recruiting ad or a anti-tobacco ad? The news I saw tonight made it sound like Armstrong had advocated personnally, influenced by this 'contract'. What gives?
I do not think he should have taken money to personally advocate for the program.
On the other hand, if ads were what the money was for, it places a whole different slant on the story.
I would like to see the papers USA TODAY obtained with theier FOIA request. I am not certain that paper is telling us the whole truth.
LOL, what a grip on government you have.
Did he return the money?
There's that fine 'conservative' spirit peeking through again. No argument or explanation for waste of taxpayer dollars on the domestic front? Run back to the WOST and try to relate it to the incursion into Iraq. Throw that 'patriotic' blanket over it. I said it before. The buck stops here. Not at some bureaucrat's desk, but at the desk of the President. With the waste of money this administration has foisted upon the citizens of the respective states in just the past four years, plausible deniability doesn't work anymore

Wow, you're channeling Karen Hughes now are you? Do you ardent Republicans get talking points somewhere to try to justify this administration's waste of money? Perhaps you need to call the White House and ask if you can get a cut like Mr. Williams. It's only taxpayer dollars, who gives a care right? 'We' are in control, that's all that matters.
However, I continue to support the President, think that government agencies should not hire PR firms, and work for incremental improvement in government using people that we can actually get elected.
And you, sir, may consult the talking points that YOU use every time there is any discussion which you can turn to your "hate Republicans, hate George Bush" theme song. It has no bearing on my opinion.
Legal or not, I agree that this looks bad. If Williams was receiving money to promote the No Child Left Behind program, he should have stated this for the purpose of "full disclosure" when he appeared on the air to discuss this subject.
LOL, haven't been rude and insulting once. When are pointed questions considered rude and insulting? When they actually question Republican leadership?

So basically you continue your support of wasteful spending as long as it's under the 'watchful eye' of Republicans. That's good. Lord knows they follow conservative ideals....

Wow, I didn't realize conservative thought was wrapped up in the personage of George Bush and the Republican party. I believed conservatism was an ideal, not a party or a person. And I withdraw my support immediately of anyone that refuses to follow the ideals of conservatism and replaces it instead for compromise. Incrementalism works only one way, to the left. And the last four years have proven that.
Can't believe it. Republicans have gone from 20 years ago when Reagan called for the abolishment of the Department of Education to arguing for the continuation of it. That's 'conservatism' that is.....
Guess what? I don't care what you think. Carry on.
If it is something that may cause a conflict, it should and better be brought to him for his thoughts first. His staff had to know about this.
It does look bad, but I think most of this is simply poor coordination, Williams not realizing his mistake, and the fact that government is too darn big! AND, I would think that the DOE could do ad buys themselves and NOT subcontract to a PR firm! I do NOT think that is a good use of taxpayer money!
