GOod grief! You learn something every day. I had no idea that 'boutiques' like this existed! Why aren't people just getting ultrasounds from their doctor's offices?

Hey, maybe we should not allow parents to take pictures of their children JUST IN CASE it might hurt their kids.

It's just that ridiculous.

Wow, your letter is much nicer than mine. Mine usually begin with "Dear foul, tax wasting, power grubbing bureaucrat...."

Hey, IleeneWright, and everyone.

It would be a shame for that great letter to go to waste. If you have a FAX or access to a FAX, you can get FAX #'s here:

http://www.ilga.gov/senate/committees/members.asp?CommitteeID=208

Did I say FAX? Well you can also get PHONE NUMBERS at that site.

My understanding is ultrasounds are only harmful in the final stages of pregnacy.

Actually I have read that there have never been any side effects with ultrasounds, including birthweight, childhood cancers, eyesight, etc. Ultrasounds have been used for 30 years, so I would think they would know by now.

I DO know that abortions cause 99.9999999999% death rate, not 100%, because there are botched abortions.

I received a copy of a letter written to Sen. Harry Reid, from Sen. Mitch McConnell, addressing "the Democrats’ continued insistence on obstructing judicial nominees".

A Letter From Sen. Mitch McConnell To Sen. Harry Reid

April 18, 2005

The Honorable Harry Reid

S-221, The Capitol

Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Harry:

I have reviewed your March 15, 2005 letter to Majority Leader Frist. While I certainly agree with your call to work together on the judicial nominations process, I am greatly concerned about your statement regarding shutting down Senate business and, by extension, the federal government. A government shut down would be rash and unwise, and the American people deserve better from us than such an act, which is surely inconsistent with "working together." I urge you to reconsider taking this action.

We can all agree there is much important work to be done in the Senate. While our economy is strong, gas prices are way too high; people feel these costs every time they fill up at the pump. This Senate needs to enact a long-term energy policy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. In addition, our transportation infrastructure needs improving. Millions of Americans take the roads and rails everyday to get to work and keep this country moving. It is thus critical that the Senate pass a highway bill. We also must reform America’s tax code so that it is fairer for all Americans and leads to a robust economy. We need to continue our efforts to reform Social Security so it is strong and secure for future generations.

Rather than work with us in a spirit of bipartisan cooperation, the Democratic Caucus has indicated it will continue its blockade of circuit court nominees. Democrats’ continued insistence on obstructing judicial nominees threatens our Constitution’s careful separation of powers among the three branches of government. Never before in the history of the country has a minority of senators filibustered—on a systematic, repeated, and partisan basis—well-qualified judicial nominees. But in the last Congress, it occurred on ten different circuit court nominations within only sixteen months.

Majority Leader Frist has repeatedly sought to afford your caucus generous time in which to debate these nominations. But he has been consistently rebuffed, including being told on one occasion that "there is not a number [of hours] in the universe that would be sufficient" to discuss a nominee. Nevertheless, Senator Frist continues his efforts to reach an accommodation. He has invited Democrats to come to the table and work with us to restore the 200-year-old norms and traditions of the Senate. Instead of shutting down the government, I urge you to work with the Majority Leader to repair our broken judicial confirmation process.

Sincerely,

Mitch McConnell

Wow. I don't even know where to begin.

"There's a new little industry that does ultrasound videos on babies before they're born for entertainment purposes," the Cook County legislator told her colleagues. "There is concern about the neurological development with long exposure."

Yeah, hurry and outlaw anything that illustrates that 'little blob of tissue' is decidedly human and worthy of life. What twisted minds thought this up. Yet apparently a 'little industry' that makes videos of another kind, the 'adult' video, has no problems due to prolonged exposure. Gee, (sarcasm) why don't they go after that one? Hmmm

Mulligan said that Planned Parenthood and the Illinois State Medical Society encouraged her to sponsor the legislation because there was a concern about long exposure of fetuses to ultrasound waves.

Ultrasound waves are much different when a doctor orders them to be administered.

" WELL, the KEEPSAKE *MOVIES* began in HOSPITALS "

Actually you are incorrect. What the hospitals did and still do is to provide a couple of pics that are taken in the course of a medically necessary ultrasound exam. The sole purpose of the ultrasound is diagnostics, not personal satisfaction for parents.

Priorty....Diagnostics...Hospital
Entertainment..."boutiques"...profit (non-medical, unessential exposure to ultrasound.

Do you want your local Walmart to start doing ultrasounds at the portrait studio?

I know this may come as a shock to you, being a doc and all...

But you are facing some of the same things we Christians face.

Christians who wear act inappropriately make ALL Christians look very bad.

Doctor's are careful to explain risks, possible side effects, the actual procedure of operations, what it entails, etc.....

But then there are the ABORTION doctors.. The one's that punch holes into babies' heads- and suck out brain tissue. Where was Planned Parenthood when partial birth abortions where up to be banned. MANY "Brain damaged" children are living today due to "botched" attempts at this GROSS precedure. Many abortion doctors never explain to women what is actually going to happen during the abortion, side effects, etc....

I will stand up and claim to my fellow Christian that their violence agianst abortion doctors is wrong. I will stand up and point out that this is wrong.

Why are you here? Why are so concerned with people fighting for the right of a crisis pregnancy center to finially shed light on the dark truth that your fellow doctors have been hiding for decades? I realize you think I am dumb and foolish, but I gotta tell ya- I would rather have an ultrasound from WALMART than a PAMPHLET from Planned Parenthood.

Why defend pro-choice to out and out kill, but not pro-choice when it comes to "vague" assertations of "possible" harm to a child? That makes no sense. NONE.

Where's the bill to outlaw women from smoking while pregnant?

Why not force these "entertainment" places to simply have women sign a form saaying that they understand there could be risk to the baby? Like the WARNING on ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES?

My point is this.... you could be spending your time much more wisely by addressing YOUR concerns and OURS! There is NO REASON IF WE BOTH ARE TRULY INTERESTED IN THE LIFE OF THESE CHILDREN Why we shouldn't be able to work together for what's best for the child.

But you just came on here last night nipping at heals. You weren't even once cordial or expressing any interest in addressing the REAL issues. You started name calling and insulting. How do you get anything done this way? HOW?

By the way..

The ultrasound equipment at the crisis pregnancy centers is provided by FOcus on the Family, and they also provide PROPER training for the use of them.

During the procedure, sound waves are sent through the body by a device called a transducer. The sonographer will apply a colorless, odorless gel to the body part being examined, which allows the transducer to move freely across the surface of the body. The echoes that are generated are then transmitted to a computer monitor where the image may be videotaped for future viewing. Ultrasound examinations are painless and harmless. Because no radioactive material is used in the procedure, there is no risk of harm to a developing fetus. http://www.albanyclinic.ca/diagn/ultra.htm
