Mankind is part of the earth. Why is coral worth saving, but not man?

A few years ago, I read that there is a little "Micro-climate" somewhere in the northern latitudes....I'm pretty sure it's on coastal Scotland.

I don't remember if it's ocean currents or what, but this small area is very tropical.

(...and we're talking on shore, not under wa-wa!)

"But why would it be there in the Arctic?"

Weak spot or fissure in the mantle

Beautiful and so unexpected. It always reminds me that even as we explore space, there is much to discover in our own world.

Do I feel stupid, heck NO, just deeply misunderstood. I'm not and Eco-Freak spewing bull Bleep either. For someone to say that man couldn't destroy the earth if he tried is questionable. He may not be be able to destroy the planet, but he's fully capable of changing the Earths Enviroment and very much of that is visible if you opened your eyes.

ValerieUSA, I liked your photo's in your profile, although I don't see where I mentioned Coral is better than mankind for saving?

43North, if Pain is gods way of telling you are alive, it's a hell of a way to do it. My pain makes me wonder if life is worth living.

Since I have to live in a drug induced haze to manage my pain, I wrote something that was taken out of context. I have traveled much of this planet by Air, Land, and, Sea. I have seen many man made problems that some countries haven't even become concerned with yet.

The Earth may have been made for man, it may not always be inhabited by man. Since our life spans cover just small slices of time on Earth, how can anyone predict the future here on Earth.

Just enjoy your time here while you can. I hope you felt good flaming me, I needed the attention.

I started out studying environmental isssues (specifically atmospheric chemistry) back in 1970, so my "eyes are open". Unfortunately, YOU have bought the eco-freak propaganda--hook, line, and stinker. Far from destroying the earth, things have measureably improved since those early days.

Life and consciousness are the most precious things we have. Pain never killed anyone. Once I'm dead I will feel no pain so if I hurt, I know I'm alive and that's the way I want to be. Its the human condition - get used to it.

from 2005.

[snip] The underwater hot springs were found at a depth of 600 meters on the so-called "Mohnsryggen" north of the Arctic island of Jan Mayen, where Norway maintains a weather station and military presence... Their eyes widened when the mini-sub glided into an underwater forest of sorts, featuring pinnacles from which streamed water as hot as 250 degrees C. Around the pinnacles (called skorstein in Norwegian) the researchers could see rich sea life including shrimps, sea spiders, coral and eel... It's not common to see coral like this thriving in the waters of the Arctic. [end]
