He did force the GOP to go back to their roots in 1994.

Very well. So you're going to be in the business of running a candidate directly against a Republican in December...

...and, no doubt, calling Republicans who disagree with you "RINOs." The irony is delicious.

So why is Jim Gilchrist so reticent about his actual party affiliation?

I live in an unincorporated area of San Diego County. I don't remember the last special election we had out here.

He's an American. He's Independent.

You got something against American Independence? :-)

>>"Key Question: Does this election have a runoff?"

Yes, unless a candidate gets a majority (50%+) in the special election.

http://www.ocregister.com/ocr/2005/08/20/sections/news/news/article_642794.php

This will be an open primary, meaning voters can cast ballots for anyone, regardless of party affiliation. If no one receives a majority of the votes cast, there will be a Dec. 6 runoff, where the top vote-getter in each party will compete for the seat.

"He's an American. He's Independent."

He's trying to pass as a Republican.

"You got something against American Independence? :-)"

No, as long as it's honestly spoken, and not glossed over with a wink and a nudge, like how Jimmy Gilchrist is doing.

He's trying to pass as a Republican.

He's a republican.

That's what matters. Right?

You might have one soon if Duke Cunningham's troubles get any worse.

I have a feeling that there will be a lot of us who walk away from the GOP if this insanity continues.

The GOP walked away from us years ago.

Even the most liberal knew what a conservative was:

Somehow, liberals have been unable to acquire from life what conservatives seem to be endowed with at birth: namely, a healthy skepticism of the powers of government agencies to do good.
--- Daniel Patrick Moynihan

the GOP now thinks the the govt agencies are good (since they are now theirs).

Today's GOP has forgotten that ....

"Libertarianism without Conservatism is anarchy. Conservatism without Libertarianism is fascism."

"True Conservatives believe in the Republic"

Don't wait for the government to solve problems, they take of things themselves.

"Gilchrist did not join the republican party, so republicans in the committee cannot support him without first resigning from the party."

Why can't the Republican Party dump Campbell and just endorse Gilchrist?

All you need is for Gilchrist to get 40% or so in the General, nosing out the Dem, and you can move your address to the devil city. In short, all you need is a Campbell collapse in the General. Of course, if Brewer wins the GOP primary, your chances of doing that improve from near invisible absent a powerful telescope, to visible with ordinary binoculars. LOL.

The Dem is going to pull 40% in the General, or very close to it.

"He's a republican."

And trying to pass as a member of the Republican Party, even though he isn't.

"That's what matters. Right?"

When it comes to asking for votes, honesty in all things--including party affiliation--is what really matters.

"If a Republican assists a non-Republican, why should that person remain in good standing with the Republican party?"

Gee, I don't know. Let's ask Sen Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) who campaigned against Pres. Bush's re-election, then did not vote for Pres. Bush but instead wrote in Bush Sr. as a write-in candidate. And of course he joined the betrayer McCain as one of the RINO Repukes Gang of 7 to continue the Dimwits filibuster option. Chafee's reward for his disloyalty to the Republican Party and his open opposition to President Bush? The RNC and Karl Rove and the Senate GOP is backing him full hilt in his campaign re-election and they are openly disparaging his conservative GOP primary opponent (can't remember the guy's name). So the moral is.... bash President Bush, sow discord and disloyalty to the Republican Party, but if you're a RINO establishment type, the RNC will still back you. Figure that one out!

Campbell's the one trying to morph himself into an actual republican.

A couple years ago, he was voting for in-state tuition for illegals, and claiming in the OC Register that "everyone should get the same benefits, no matter who they are."

Now he's trying to be Jim Gilchrist.

It ain't working.

Then why was he registered for years in the AIP if he was really a Republican? I am not going to let you skate on this issue. I will bring it up from time to time from now until November. You might let Gilchrist know I keep asking.

Alright congresscritters, play nice.

Mr. Congressman, we would really like to have someone we KNOW is strong on border security. Most of us are conservatives before being attached to ANY party. I have never voted for anyone outside of the Repub party but guess what? In any race now, if there is a more conservative third party candidate running....that is where my vote goes.
