My brother lives in Florida on the Gulf Coast.

That area is populated mainly by midwesterners - which he can tolerate. He was a midwesterner himself.

But he's starting to see an influx of northeasterners heading into his area. Unfortunately, they bring with them the liberalism that helped destroy the northeastern states.

They are all moving to Florida. That's why I moved back to Texas.

I used to live in Rhode Island, but I got tired of being the only able bodied man on the block holding down a regular job.

So I left.
(Aint freedom grand??)

I lived in Clearwater/St Pete area of FL for two years. You can't believe the amount of New Yorkers that move in in a year. The entire spirit has changed to that of NY. If you don't have a nasally NY accent you are lower than dirt.

"Nevada, with an estimated population increase of 3-point-5 percent, was the fastest growing state for the 19th consecutive year, followed by Arizona, Idaho, Florida and Utah."

Which of these is not like the other? Florida is a geographic disconnect but probably powered by the demographic bump of retiring boomers. Utah grows probably because of the Mormon birth rate. Nevada and Arizona by retirement to the dry heat. Idaho? Idaho????? The one that doesn't fit is really Idaho.

....Experts attribute the trend to soaring housing costs, a stagnant job market and the arrival of fewer immigrants.........

The "experts" should check with the towns Tax Assessor's offices.

Here in Barrington RI, in 1997 we built our Lindal Cedar dream house, but the only person that loved the house more than we did was the lady tax assessor:

"Oh that's lovely; Your three gas fireplaces are dramatic; what a beautiful tile treatment in your two bathrooms; the exposed beams and cathedral ceilings are exquisite; oh, and the pristine water view."

"Thank you for allowing me in your new house, here's your property tax bill for $12,500; have a nice day!"

Unfortunately, FL will become a Blue state as well as Ohio and AZ! Sad days will be upon us folks!

Idaho has a farily large Mormon minority also it is a semipopular retriement place, just not as much as Florida, and Arizona, not everyone hates snow. I also imagine that Bosie gets a fair amount of economic refugees from the liberal west coast states.

Florida got redder from 2000 to 2004 despite or because of it's northern influx. Explain that?

Nah, not to worry. We had a typical CA liberal couple (w/kids) move into our rural area in Texas last year, they are already gone. They started out how they loved our little country town (it is so "quaint") but now our neighbors remember them griping about our "backward" ways, narrow-mindedness (we generally/usually/mostly believe in God, right and wrong, try to fit the punishment to the crime, etc.) and other "hick" ways. Good riddance. Done...NEXT?!?

I bet those states will raise taxes even more to cover tax losses (from the exodus). More people will continue to leave and they'll still be wondering why.

The idiot part of population will stay and accept the wonderful government achievement of increased cash flow.

If the current trend holds, yes. If not, no.

I can scarcely wait for the bloodletting which will occur once Massachusetts loses 2 Congress seats after the next census.

The morons around here won't be calling for repeal of the Electoral College anymore once that happens.

Scary thought though! If the trend DOES hold, FL will gain MORE electoral votes and the SHE-DEVIL will have a pretty good chance of winning FL...ughhh!
