I fled from the Inland Empire. After I was burglarized twice and carjacked in my own driveway, I retreated to higher ground. Sometimes, you fight, but you lose. California is not the hill I wanted to die on.

Those figures you cited are misleading. Some of the surveys taken of our educational system have an agenda -- i.e., more money for schools and/or teachers. It behooves them to paint a far bleaker picture than what it really is.

Also, we have quite a few Native American reservations in Arizona, and many of those kids have not been successful in terms of their education (high drop-out rates, for instance), which really skews the data in these surveys.
