Central Vermont was supposed to get snow showers today, but so far we haven't seen anything. I guess the coast got hit worst, as the weather maps suggested would happen.

Los Angeles checking in. Driving treacherous, as usual. Should be about 85 and sunny.

Our Valentine's weekend DC getaway was cut short by the approaching snowstorm- which by the late night weather reports was slowing down and gaining strength over earlier predictions. We pulled out of DC early Sat. morning after breakfast at the hotel, and left town in a light rain around 8:00 am. South of Baltimore the rain turned to a freezing rain/light snow mix, but by the time we hit the PA line we had outrun the weather and skies were sunny. The snow caught back up to us shortly after noon, and we were getting maybe 1/2 in. per hour for the rest of the day. Things picked up steam overnight and we woke to 14' inches of snow, which was double what we were expecting on the west side of Lancaster Co.
The power was off as we got up, and just came back on about an hour ago. Snow tapered off around the same time, and about half an hour ago the sun started peaking out. The winds are picking up now, blowing chunks of clinging wet snow off the branches.
Hubby spent a few hours blowing our 1/3 mile driveway with a snowblower. It's a vintage monster, but runs like an old workhorse and gets the job done. He said the roads are a mess and even the main highway has not been plowed.
Sunday is a day I like to putter around the house and do some cooking or baking. Since all that snow removal works up an appetite, the snowy day menu for today is homemade venison & vegetable stew, roast chicken, mashed potatoes & green beans. Plus homemade rice pudding and coffee cake for treats.
I took a few pictures and hope to get them posted this afternoon.

Look on the bright side.....cookie eating afternoon! ;*) LOL!!!
Actually it's cookie sorting afternoon. Between my daughter and the other little girl down the road they sold nearly 500 boxes.....of course it is hte moms that have to do the picking up and sorting. At least we won't have the girls under our feet once we get the cookies back here, they are at the other girl's grandmother's house :)

Just finished our driveway, by hand. Snow blowers don't work well on gravel. Now to enjoy the fire.

It is supposted to get in the 60s down here later in the week. If I didn't have to go out Monday I'd do the same, stay in and let it melt away.

Don't know if Bradford pears are good smoking wood, but I do know the our County stopped planting them along roads because they are so brittle. They look good but are as dangerous as Tulip Poplars.

Martinsburg, Wv, we got about a foot in the back yard, and 8" on the driveway. It was warm enough to keep it melted off, with salt. But, trying to shovel it out of the doorway, IT WAS HEAVY AND WET!
I spent the morning watching ARCA, and saw two of the fellas that tried out for Driver X. Matt McCall, who came in second, driving for yates, and Danny O'Quinn (#39 race car), who Jack Roush just couldn't let go... Danny got pushed out in a wreck early, but came back onto the track later to make some circles.
It was nice to see some future stars!
(Now, isn't that better than talkin' 'bout snow!)

Glad to here you made it home safely and the power is back on. Not many people can make venison taste good. Sounds like you got it down.
Can you still get parts for your snow blower?
Looking forward to your pics.

Thanks. Anything is better than snow, unless you paid for a ski trip.

Las Vegas is now 57 degrees at 10.43, high today about 70. Light winds out of the South at 5 to 7 MPH. No wonder we cannot build houses and condo's fast enough. Snow BLAAHHHH

No company at our house this weekend. We were at my brother's house for the party. It was his gig.
