Newman can be amusing but those lyrics show a startling ignorance of God and the Son of God.
My guess is that "alcohol" was really an early attempt at covering up the smell of the Neanderthal women with the smell of fermented berries.
Then some goof drank it and the rest is history.
Im imagining a punk chewing gum while punching his fists together, a shifty fellow in a raincoat probably with a shotgun under there, and a skinhead with a baseball bat leaning against a wall.
Three less diverse clonetroopers have just landed nearby and engaged them..and...oh they lasered them all. Your analogy turns out correct in my imagination.
thats why they take off their hats....cause they dont know what love is....
Didn't take this thread long to deteriorate into an anti-God thread.
> My personal guess is that disease wiped out the Neandertals when we arrived in their homelands,
Entirely possible, and not to be discounted. However, disease wipign out an *entire* *species* seems kinda substantial. What seems to me equally likely is that Europe was populated by the Neanderthal "jocks" when the Cro Magnon "nerds" showed up. The jocks whacked a couple nerds upside the head with sticks and yukked it up; the surviving nerds pulled back, and thought up means to wipe out the jocks. As with modern contests between nerds and jocks, bet on the nerds. The nerds probably figured out what the jock food sources were... and wiped 'em out.
Always grateful for a lyrics post, especially for a song I didn't know. Tx.
Neandertal ping
last I checked, we had only a paltry number of Neandertal specimen to study - something like 100 - of which only a dozen or so are relatively complete. I'd be a LOT happier with discussions concerning the "disappearance" of this advanced hominid if we had good comarative SOMATIC DNA assays to look at.
Indeed.
Ten years ago I believe we had no mtDNA, now there are several specimens. We're making progress, one step at a time.
In the old days (say, 15 years ago) we were limited to what the fossils could tell us. I'd say, we are making very good progress.
yeah, yeah... that's all true, but... it's still sizzle when I crave steak :)
I want to understand what is going on out there; I am figuring out some of the answers in my narrow field and I expect other scientists to do the same. That way we all learn.
This is one of the things I most object to from some of the religious folks is the attitude that "we know all the answers already, no need to search for more."
Thanks for the ping!
You could ask Dave for a slab of his dino meat.

Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)
LOL!!
Neanderthal beer had a notoriously low percentage of alcohol --- who could have forseen that that would lead to their extinction?
