While I am not a Romney fan this was unnecessary. But Romney is going to have to confront this if he wants to run for president and not run away.
To: areafiftyone
Mitt Romney is a Massachusetts LIBERAL. His race against Kennedy was pathetic. He ran away from anything even remotely conservative. He makes Allen look like Mike Pence.
To: areafiftyone
If Romney thinks he has it bad *now* regarding his religion, wait until he gets the nomination (if he does).
The democRAT Party hates Mormons even more than they hate Karl Rove.

I'm not a Romney fan nor a fan of LDS doctrine - but this is ridiculous.
Ezra Taft Benson proved that LDS believers can serve in the US executive with distinction and without imposing LDS distinctives.

Romney is not Pro-life, he is not a fiscal conservative. Universally mandated Health insurance?? What a joke.Hillary would give me that.
To: areafiftyone
I agree it's irrelevant... Except for one reason: The Dems are going to make a lot of hay out of it, if he's nominated.

And Karl Rove is Mormon too!!!!

If we are going to nominate a Mormon we should nominate Jeff Flake!
To: areafiftyone
The problem is that Romney is a Mormon, not a conservative Christian. The Christian conservative base will have a hard time tolerating a presidential candidate that does not share their faith, particularly a Mormon. The GOP needs to be careful that religious differences such as this don't cast an ill shadow on the party.

I'm old enough to recall all the arguments that were made about John Kennedy being a Catholic - and that he would take his orders from the Pope as to decisions for America...

*To all you Romney haters*
Everyone knows what you are doing, and it wont work. You people are the same nuts who were behind Pat Buchanan years ago. Zealots don't win, and your attacks on Romney are quite transparent. You move from thread to thread with this crap, and if you had the slightest subtlety to your attacks, you might be more effective. You have now joined the troll list. Watch yourselves.

This is beginning to sound like the "Kennedy is a Catholic!" garbage from the 1960 election!.............

Those kinds of arguments are hogwash. But on the other hand, it did cost Kennedy votes, and there is no question that Romney's religion would cost him votes.
To: areafiftyone
For heaven's sake, it is Democrats who want to impose religious tests on public office, like Senator Schumer with his no-traditional-Catholic-believers-apply approach to the judiciary. Get a grip, people! The President cannot impose any religion on anyone. The First Amendment provides for no establishment and free exercise, remember?
To: Pukin Dog
I cannot stand Pat Buchanan. Get a clue. I am a Reaganite.
Romney is not.
