I honestly don't know if he should have resigned or not.
If he felt he needed to resign then that was the right decision, a decision that only he could make.
Remember, he did not actually have sex with any page. He merely engaged in electronic communication that was, in some ways in appropriate, but was it really illegal? Did his actions actually harm anyone? Did his actions distract him from performing the duties of his office? Borderline sexual harassment perhaps, maybe...poor use of judgement certainly....and in the end the political firestore was effecting his ability to serve his constituents...so yes he did the right thing in resigning.
But look at the example we have from the Democrats. In the one instance where a democratic gay blade did have sex with a page it merely resulted in a mild rebuke and a standing ovation from the Dims. We all know the adventures of Slick Willie. We need to point out the clear divide about how we react to improper behavior by those in our camp, and how the Dims react when one of theirs is caught with their hand in the...uh...ummm...proverbial cookie jar. The contrast in how we deal with is is stark and needs to be another major talking point when we discuss why Republicans are better suited for serving this nation in elected office than are Dims. We take responsibility for our actions, and do not rush to judgement. They always launch into all manner of wiggles, squirming and shuffling to deflect their responsibility for their actions and they not only rush to judgement in an extream way, they often lie and distort any situation to make it something it simply isn't.
The desparation of the Left is obvious....they know that this mid-term is critical to their survival as a major political force. They lose here, 2008 becomes nearly impossible for them to succeed...for all the reasons they should not be elected now.

No...I missed Griff. I left at 5PM and just got home.
Then when I watched ABC News Tonight, they covered the Hastert story, but NO Brian Ross, no new angle to the "new page" allegations in the story, nothing but Hastert and "will he survive." And on that note, ABC reported that the President had called Speaker Hastert today to offer his support (according to ABC, this was the first time they had talked since last week)
Then the absolute best, although ABC News did not use their own story, Shep Smith led his "FOX Report" with the "3 new pages making allegations" story, and credited ABC!
