He should start out with

"My friends, although the young man and his parents made a request for complete privacy, I regret to say, the due respect for that reasonable request has been violated."

Lard butt needs to put down the twinkie and resign to help alleviate the situation.

The MSNBC poll shows we are in deep trouble because of this; we may lose control of Congress. Voters are going to remember this unless something comes along that changes their minds.

Would Hastert resigning send the Dems into glee? Yes. But, I think the harm done by resigning would be less than that of staying in power.

He's not going anywhere, he always said he's going to leave on his terms. My guess is that this will be his last term.

You invested your energy in trying to destroy Tom Delay.

Now you want to destroy another Republcan leader.

Why should anyone listen to someone who's only passion seems to circulate around removing high level Republicans in the Party?

BTW, he's not in trouble with "Values" voters.

How would Hillary's resignation help?

It's perfectly legal for a homosexual man to mount a 16 year old boy.

But is it right?

If Hastert kicked him out for being "gay", he'd be charged with a sexual discrimination law suit.

Hastert should have investigated further. Are you saying Foley should still be in the House? Reasons existed for getting rid of him.

If you're appalled by all this, maybe you should be demanding a democrats head to roll.

Moral conservative who are outraged at Hastert's behavior certainly don't condone the Democrats. Do you really think that is the case?

The page program seems like something we really don't need in the first place. Yearly salary for the 72 House pages is $1,354,824 and for the Senate it's $614,730. There are dedcutions taken out of the salary for federal and state taxes, Social Security, a residence hall fee of $400 for house pages and $600 for Senate pages. They have their own dormitory and school.

And this is all so they can run around delivering papers from office to office?

See here (pdf) for more information.

A reference to an earmark in 1999 for the House Page Dorm is here. $3.7 million? For what?

The issue here to me is why is there is even a page program in the first place? It seems to be another large waste of money. And I bet that the only way to get the jobs is for the person to have political connections. It would be interesting to see how many past pages were family members of someone in Congress or in some way connected to Congress.

There is a group that has as it's members page alumni, or at least there was a group, they have taken their web site offline. I bet there was some interesting stuff on sites like this one or this one before they went dark. Why would web sites for US Congress page alumni all seem to go dark suddenly? Hmm....

I'm betting this Foley thing is going to end up like the banking scandal in Congress some years back. There is a lot more here than meets the eye. I have the feeling that some ex-page somewhere is going to get rich writing a book.

That is what I was saying. He I believe planned to leave in January 09, and he is probably leaving in January 09. So, do they really need to push him now. One alternative I heard though is that he might decide to stay speaker until January, and not seek re-election as speaker under the new congress. Guess we will find out soon.

I am thinking we will find out soon that the "IM transcripts" are all foney as $3 dollar bills. Foley was vulnerable because of the e-mails and being gay and is now somehow being blackmailed.

Which would explain why the 16 year old 18 year old "victim" hired Timothy McVeighs $$$$$ defense lawyer . Hmmmmmmm?

Alert: Hastert To Take Blame

In a press conference scheduled for noon CT in Illinois, House Speaker Dennis Hastert plans to accept some measure of responsibility for failing to discover Rep. Mark Foley's misconduct with pages, a House official said this morning. " He is taking responsibility because the buck stops with him," the official said.

Hastert won't resign "because that would be giving into the Democrat party’s best wish," the official said.

He is expected to make several announcements, including one about revisions to the page program.

Maybe he'll present some of the mounting evidence

"Mounting evidence" is an unfortunate choice of words....

Fat chance. No way in hell he will actually do any decent offense.

That is why he needs to resign.

This fat slob sucks at his job.

He should be screaming from the rooftops:

1) IM's and emails are different.
2) Politically-motivated effort, show ties etc.
3) Say that Fordham actually was trying to keep these things separate....not that he warned him as he claimed yesterday after earlier saying he was wanting to protect Foley and keep them secret.

Frankly, Hastert has been so incredibly incompetent here that he needs to resign.

He has bumbled this, and hopes of keeping the House, perhaps beyond repair.

RESIGN NOW.
