Because your housing, cost of living and taxes are too high .. plus businesses are moving out of the big cities for the same reason

New Hampshire is predominately republican and has the same problem. You could argue that they are all "New England republicans", or find an alternative theory. Such as the winters in New England.

I have seen it in south Florida.
In English, a house that has $7000 yearly taxes (a nice average figure on LI) is just not worth it compared to a house in the South with taxes of maybe $1500.
In Smithtown it's more like 15-20k.
Oh and the fact that I grew up and live on Long Island means nothing.
I've been here all my life and I can state unequivocally that Massachusetts and other northeastern states are not conducive to working with the free enterprise system.The people running these states are all about socialism and the results are beginning to show.While the country in general is gradually turning in this direction there are still options for free market companies in other sections of the country to look for !!!

I'm part of this demographic - I moved from Vermont a few years ago. All the others I know who have left are also conservative; granted, those are the sorts of folks I know.
What are the reasons? Well, partly there aren't many entry level jobs in the more rural areas. There used to be more factories and paper mills and such...many of those have closed, and Vermont, at least, makes life difficult for new businesses. There aren't many places where you can work your way up anymore. And property taxes are high. Salaries aren't going up to meet that.
I still love Vermont - the land, anyway. It's a wonderful place to grow up, and a great place to retire. But the in between part is getting hard to do. And the overall population is aging as a result - there aren't nearly as many young families, which also factors in to this study.

Oh come on. You mean to tell me Boston doesn't have clubs for young adults to go to?

From your post, Rosie, I get the msg that Vermont is a good place to be FROM, right? As in, it's not a good place to be nowadays - is that about right? Everything I see, read and hear says it's not a good place to be.

I'm not disputing that the government is liberal - I'm saying a) that many of those moving away are *conservatives*, and b) that just because the government is liberal, that doesn't mean there aren't good conservatives in those states.
It's the broad brush that gets my goat. Same goes for when people gleefully suggest we dump CA in the ocean, for example. It is, as another poster said, childish.

Rosie baby,wake up and smell the coffee.First of all ninety nine percent of the state you live in as well as the state I live in (Massholechusetts) is LIBERAL.My state sends people like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry to the Senate and your state sends Patrick Leahy and !!! BERNIE SANDERS !!! to the Senate. Sanders makes Kennedy and Kerry seem almost conservative. It's not the geography or even the weather that's the problem with New England States,it's the love of marxist politics that stinks up the region !!!

Oh, we don't have to do anything to destroy CA. The citizens and illegals will take care of that all by themselves.
