I'm still trying to understand why ANYBODY would think that a man who's spent most of his adult life in a safe congressional seat is the savior of the conservative movement.I'm still trying to understand why ANYBODY would think that a man who is a pro-abortion gun-grabber is the savior of the conservative movement.

He was an easily befuddled, slow-witted, flat footed guy in a cowboy hat.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hardly.
That good old boy managed to weather 6 years of hate, and kept America where it should be internationally, after winning two consecutive elections aginst hate mongers, and holding his own with RINO interlopers in the Republican party.
He has engineered a remarkable economy in times of radical change. He may have his weaknesses but those you outlined are not among them. Methinks you have bought the propaganda of the MSM slimes.
The man in the cowboy hat had no idea of what was to befall him when first elected. He has done an admirable job,and understands the history of fascism.Accordingly, history will be kind to him. I am proud of the job he has done, except for not waging a couter propaganda war here at home.He simply did not want to be beholden to any press corps, conservative or liberal. That is also cause for admiration.
He is a man not taken with the creation of an image which everyone "likes." That makes him a good, genuine man,a rare commodity in todays political world, and that plain goodness is the cause of so much denigration and hatred from the left, and now from Republicans. He does not deserve it.

God forbid that it ever comes to this. I pray the GOP isn't stupid enough to let this happen.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Me too.
Let's see whether the RINO wing of the GOP tries to usurp Hunter by leaking fake scandal info. near the end of the nomination cycle, that will tell all. Or they will jockey the funding support against him. If either of these happen, then Republican conservatives will start posting their exit tickets, abandoning the RINO tyranny of the Republican party.

Rudy Giuliani vs. Hillary in the Electoral College: Rudy : 337 Electoral Votes Hillary: 201 Electoral Votes >>>>>>>>>>
You failed to mention that the only difference between Rudy and Hillary is their plumbing. And that, may not be a sure thing either.

but one thing is clear: Republicans have tended to do better with nominees like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, who drew the enthusiastic support of conservatives, than with those who attracted less fervent backing, like Gerald Ford, the elder George Bush and Bob Dole.
That is an attractive argument. I am certainly open to Hunter. Is Tancredo still running? But I would also be happy with Gingrich or Romney. Ann Coulter says that Romney has the ability to fool Democrats into voting for him. Quite an endorsement. I think he does look and sound good on T.V. She also describes Gingrich as brilliant, which might be true. I wonder how much hate the left still has for Newt. Their vitriol could backfire. For the number two position, I suggest someone further to the right - impeachment insurance. Romney-Hunter? Romney-Gingrich? Gingrich-Hunter?

I won't say who we need, but who I want is Vice President Dan Quayle.Today would be a good day for you to quit smoking crack.

If he's an ex-ranger, he may have the military chops to execute a war. But to lead he needs to be able to speak to the folks out there beyond the TV cameras and rally them.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I agree. The next president needs to be a leader of men. I can't see any others with that potential except Hunter at this time.
I actually pray God that he will inspire Duncan to move forward, knowing that millions of us are waiting for him to saddle up.
All Dunc needs to do is take the high ground.

The polls tell a story. The same polls were basically accurate last election I remember getting myself in the frame of mind as many other Freepers that the polls were wrong and biased, and that our side was going to win. At the end, to my dismay, the polls were right.
Hunter doesn't even get 1% while Rudy gets 30%, and it is the electorate that will decide who the next President will be. Usually, the one who has the biggest percentage of support in the polls it the one who will likely win.
To: HitmanLV
I'm all for giving DH a shot, and clearly evaluating his chances. I wonder if they will to the same for Rudy. ;-)
To: Victoria Delsoul
Polls are useful, regardless of wholesale Freeper denial. While any one opinion poll may be suspect, if 6 to 10 polls all tell the same basic story, the truth is in there somewhere.
I hope Freeper Poll Denial Syndrome has been vanquished forever, after the GOP falling on its ass in 2006. Thing is, I think too many people around here still have FPDS. :-)

Sorry. I missed the thread line. I assumed you were speaking about the president and apologize for my mistake. After a hard day at work, sometimes the scrolling function in the old perception loop becomes inadequate.
Mea Culpa. I agree with what you said if you were speaking of Sen. Allen. That was a twist that should have taught us a lesson about candidate assessment.
Hunter has the Ranger background, and is a yeoman , running his own practise right out of law school. If he has those cojones ( I ran my own practise out of law school too, but could only hack it for a few years, it was really tough.)to bring to the nomination race, he has a lot more going for him than the RINO silver spoon-in -the-mouth anointees of the party.
The more I learn about Hunter, the more I like him. My hand is headed for my wallet and it takes a lot to get me to do that.I hope other conservatives are peeling off a few greenbacks for him too.

No harm, no foul. I am a lawyer too, but don't practice.
I'm prepared to give Hunter a fair shot. He seems like a good guy. But it's all uphill for him. His rivals are making huge paydays in one-night events for fancypants people. He's going to have a tough road ahead when it comes to money - lots of $20s, $50s, and $100s will be needed to compete with Rudy, McCain, and Romney, who make up to 1000x that in one night of shaking hands.
Keep the faith.
