Worlds in Collision. Immanuel Velikovsky.

One of the most notorious heaps of pseudoscientific fruitcakery ever written.

"even if Venus had only 5% CO2 in its atmosphere it would have a larger greenhouse effect than all of Mars."

I think we're in a state of "violent agreement". :)

It found also, that the night side of Venus is, if anything, hotter than the day side and that light does not penetrate the cloud cover. It must be gloomy and bleak under this cover, it is stated in the Mariner report by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory; very little greenhouse effect could realize itself under such conditions...

the author quotes the Mariner report by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Take your charges of pseudoscientific fruitcakery up with them, as a taxpayer, you helped pay for it.

Oh I have no doubt that the JPL would agree that Worlds in Collision is idiotic nonsense -- to put it politely -- despite the fact that the author quotes them (whether or not he quotes them accurately). A typical assertion from the book is that Venus had a couple of near collisions with Earth about 3500 years ago, which started and stopped the Earth's rotation.

If you're trying to make a point about physical science then you'd be more credible quoting Superman cartoons (which are better known and spring from a more scientific worldview than Velikovsky's).

Killing the messenger isn't very scientific, is it?

I'm really happy to see this type of correlation with the cosmic ray / cloud stuff.

You really manage to discover and post some of the best refutations to the global warming / climate change alarmists. Thanks for your efforts.
