Yes, but it limits options with Iran as the Gulf would be blocked if an attack came, which is appearing more likely by the day. In this case Turkey, especially for sea lift, would be vital.

Wrong! Turkey is NOT the enemy here!

They do more stuff for our military behind the scenes then you can imagine!

The (Islamic) Turks can’t handle the truth.

Quite true. The Muslims are being oversensitve (again). However, we know it's genocide and even though they won't admit it, it's best not to tick off the few ME countries we have helping us.

There was a time only 200 years ago when Italy had signal towers up and down the coast to warn of Moslem pirate raids. Moslem then meant Turk. Entire villages were deserted, their men kidnapped by Turks as slaves. Those were the days, but it’s over.

Is there anyone around here associated with the high level aspects of logistics that can accuratly evaluate the Turks’ actual participation?

I do have to admit to ignorance on the particulars. The only time I’ve heard of specifics was when the Turk decided to play the easy game of “Screw the Americans” and picked the islamics side of the fight by refusing to honor their agreement to allow the 4th ID transit.

That single act alone should earn them the full removal of “ally” considerations in a war time setting.... if we were actually interested, as a nation, in motivating nations to stop punking us every time it appears to be a fun game to play.

No consequences for screwing us over. That’s the last I’ve heard on the Turk issue. What did I miss?

But why this controversy NOW? That’s what bothers me.

A transparent attempt to weaken a relationship between allies that would hurt the US effort in Iraq.

Motive: To appease their left wing anti-Iraqi war constituency; where the dems derive power.

Truth: They do not care a modicum about an early twentieth century old massacre. It is an opportunity, an underhanded tool to use, and they have sour grapes about continually being defeated in Congress to get any of their anti-Iraqi bills passed.

Well gee golly.......the ol’ Democrat Party-controlled Congress once again shows that they simply have WAAAAAAAY too much time on their hands.

Hmmm.......resolutions against a radio talk show host (Rush), now one of our few ME allies over ‘injustices’ in the early 20th century.....so what’s next? Let’s project our own list, shall we?

1. Hal Roach for the Little Rascals serials. Obviously racist.
2. England.....because we fought ‘em a couple of times early in our history. Obviously deplorable bastards.
3. France...........well..........never mind.
4. McDonald’s........they make too much money and force us to eat their food until we become fat and puffy
5. WalMart.......just FAR too much $$$........and obviously on the backs of the poor and disadvantaged.
6. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese......just because.
7. Fox News Channel.......because they don’t kiss enough Democrat butt
8. Any and all American arms manufacturers.......need I even explain why?
9. NASA......way too rich a history of spectacular achievements in their past; too much ‘flag waving’ stuff
10. Wall Street......too greedy, too white

Please......feel free to add your own “Necessary Resolution” to save the Dems from any further brainwork.

EXACTLY RIGHT

It’s an anti-America hat trick for Pelosi. Threaten USGI supplies; strain US-Turkey relations; and by extension strain Israel-Turkey relations (in light of Syrian Air-Strike).

For what? Some asinine historical resolution. It’s far beyond irresponsible.

Pelosi-Murtha plan in action. Starve the military by limiting supply routes.

Actually, I believe this was sponsored by some idiot Republican.

Pelosi took to heart the edict by Muslims Today to Christians not to obstruct Islams plans.

Let me qualify that. This occurred 90 years ago. Under the Ottoman empire, not the current administration.

Most importantly--before Ataturk, the founder of the modern secular Turkish state, and one of the U.S. and Israel's best allies in the region.

You missed some a$$ kissing by The Administration and/or the State Department. They have already undermined our efforts by sending the 4th ID packing. Anything Turkey does now will inconvenience the logistics but won’t undermine our efforts in Iraq.

There are Democrats (cut and runners) who oppose this legislation because it might compromise redeployment (cut and run) efforts through Turkey. So nothing is as clear cut as some would have us believe. We have no allies in Islam and Turkey is our “ally” in much the same a tic is our ally. Excellent use of scare quotes, btw.

Well said, idiot Republican, tool of the left. Long history of this, ending with Ron Paul of late.

It’s still the Pelosi-Murtha plan to limit options and force a withdrawal from Iraq.

The Democrats just upped the ante....they are the posterchiles of Unintended Consequences.

Apparently the Dhimwits want the USA to fight the other Billion or so Muslims and get the Jihad on! Perhaps Bashar Assad pissed off the queen (Pelosi). By bringing up the vote on the last day of Ramadan, it’s like Pelosi putting her foot on the head of the Ottoman Turks. Now I give the Mafia Queen equal odds against the Muslims...just wish she’d a done that in another century than the one my kids will be living in.

I am confused as I was in Armenia about 10 years ago and there is a park that Turkey paid for as an apology for the genocide.

It was built between WWII and the cold war.

To me Armenia accepting this park defused the issue and the only thing a person bringing it up now is to get more money or power!

I think the Congress is acting as much out of ignorance as anything else. I believe if you gave Congress and the 8th grade at any parochial school the same test, the kids would beat the Congress easily— even if you factored out the insobriety of the Congresspersons. The Armenian devestation at the hands of the Ottoman Empire 90 years ago was whatever it was. It is just as much a genocide if Congress says nothing, and no more a genocide if Congress condemns it. The point is Congress is pounding sand pointlessly, and in the process, they are creating animosity in Turkey, who just let the Israelis use their airspace after the bombing of the Syrian secret site. They are creating animosity in Turkey, whose acquiescence to our use of facilities there for logistics is critically important and could only be replaced by airlifting directly into Iraq and providing the insurgents with a plethora of large, slow airborne targets to shoot at with hand-held missiles. They are creating animosity in Turkey, whose military we are trying to restrain from invading northern Iraq to pursue Kurdish insurgents— an action which would greatly complicate the effort to unify the Iraqi factions, and which would create an unusually intense dilemma for our military, for we have more than a few military personnel in Turkey to think about also. They are creating animosity in Turkey, which has elected Islamist politicians who control the government for the first time since Kemal Ataturk created the secular state of Turkey 80 years ago. The congressional actions at this time with regard to this particular issue are egregiously moronic even for a chamber filled with drunken morons, cretins, and idiots.
