Hooray! Another reason to hate this stupid song.

I actually kinda liked it till I saw him perform it on TV a few years ago. He looked absolutey ridiculous to me..his gestures and over-dramatizing his songs made me turn the channel in 5 minutes.

I still like some of his music though. Solitary Man is one of my favorites.

Actually, this seems like a MADE-UP story by Neil to ingratiate himself to the Kennedy’s. It reeks more like Hillary saying her mom named her after Sir Edmund Hillary....LIE.

A #1 hit, Mr. Diamond? Not in Billboard. According to Joel Whitburn's The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits (1996 ed.), SC peaked at #4. Nineteen seventy's "Cracklin' Rosie" finally got you to #1, Neil.

I read in a book called Neil Diamond: Solitary Star (I forget the author's name) where Diamond actually got the idea for "Cracklin' Rosie" after telling the buddies he was dining with how "cracklin'" the rose' he was savoring over his dinner was.

Hey, Neil, tell us about Shiloh. :-)

All that said, I enjoy Neil's hits up through "Longfellow Serenade", after which "I've been inclined to believe" he stooped to too many schmaltzy ballads. And if you enjoy city sounds, which I do, you'll love "Beautiful Noise" from 1976.

“I am”, I said
To no-one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

Was written about an encounter with naugahyde.

How about he just came up with that one? he is invited to sing at her 50th and oh by the way that song was written for you Caroline!!! Don’t buy it.

I can't think of a better example of someone surely telling a lie--when the truth would sound better...

UNGHHhhh. I no longer cherish that song, formerly a favorite.

I agree. I don’t think songwriters always remember what they meant by their songs anyway. Joe Walsh claims that the line “I go to parties, sometimes until four/it’s hard to leave when you can’t find the door” in Life’s Been Good meant that the party is so crowded by then that you can’t find it. Yeah, right. It means you’re too stoned or drunk to find it.

Diamond wasn’t “fantacizing” about a little girl!

When he saw the picture and its quaint innocence and beauty, it made him happy and he wrote a song based on that exuberance. You obviously don’t know anything about songwriting. It can be very sub-conscious. Everything doesn’t have a direct correlation in art.

I think you’re the one fantacizing. Who’s the pervery here? lol

This and all the other replies that imply he’s a pervert are ABSURD! You people all need to learn about songwriting. Songs are formed through notions and free association. Diamond sees a quaint picture of a child happy next to her horse and later writes a song based on that exuberance and joy. The lyrics come last, after the melody is in place. THERE’S NO LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL REGULATIONS THAT REQUIRE THE LYRICS TO MATCH THE INSPIRATION FOR THE MELODY. So he pointed the lyrics to two ADULT lovers-—SO WHAT.

I think people let their own perversions get the best of them here.

Great Movie!

There may be only those that like Neil Diamond and those who don’t, but I would say most DO!

WE LOVE YOU NEIL!!!
