All Boomers are not equal. The early Boomers and the late Boomers are far different than the middle Boomers in many ways. The late Boomers, in terms of personality, are a lot more like Generation X’ers. This is because the middle Boomers “muddied the water” which the late Boomers were expected to drink.

In fact, a lot of the late Boomers despised the 1960s, the Hippies, and all the filth and squalor the middle Boomers left in their wake. Not just in the 1960s, but in the ‘70s and ‘80s as well. The middle Boomers were always the “big bulge” that got what it wanted, leaving the bill for the late Boomers and the Gen-X’ers to pay.

So when the middle Boomers get too old and corrupt to keep power, the late Boomers will join with everybody else in sticking it to the old buggers. Maybe team up and send them down to retirement and nursing homes in Mexico, so we can finally be rid of them.

As a baby boomer, I say to the fellow members of my generation, “Get over your damn selves!”

"The authors actually break the boomer generation down not by age, but by six segments, everything from Straight Arrows, about one-third of boomers who are "driven by traditional values and religion," to Re-Activists, about 15% of boomers who "are ready to join campaigns in support of social causes." In between there are Due Diligents who "think ahead and plan for the worst;" Maximizers, the quintessential boomers who "want to do as much as possible and get the most from life;" Sideliners, who are "private, self-contained and undemanding;" and Diss-Contenteds who "see social problems they would like to fix, and their sympathies are with the protesters."

Brilliant! There is no way they could pigeon-hole any other generation into those exact same groups! /major s

Ok. What year separates the "middle" from the "late?" I was born in 1957. I have been studying Spanish for the last several years. Do I need to study harder?

I’m a boomer, who has been “reformed.”

Same here. I am also hoping that our boomer desire to live active lives longer will result in some cures or better treatments for diabetes, Alzheimers, and a myriad of other diseases as researchers and Big Pharma see the goldmine in helping boomers stay healthy.

I do think that as a group, we look better. I watch old movies all the time and when you see actors/characters who are in their 50s, it's like they are ancient. I don't know anyone who looks so old and beat down as some of these actors, even the ones playing upper class characters, look. Nothing wrong with being a Boomer, especially when you consider the alternative.

Most boomers have arrived just in time to enjoy "defined contribution" e.g. 401K self-funded retirements while bearing an enormous tax burden created by socialists (social security, medicare). Many never made enough to properly save for retirement. Their parents enjoyed a comfortable retirement based on "defined benefits". Some of those "defined benefits" are funded from the taxes laid on the boomers and succeeding generations. The consequence is that many "boomers" are going to keep working to cover the basic necessities of food, clothing, shelter and medical expenses. Many will never have the luxury of retiring as their parents did in the prior generations.

Yep & a lot of those who follow us think we created the whole mess & wanna push us into the grave as fast as they can. They think that as soon as we're outta the way & they're running the show all will be right with the world. Wait 'til they find out that all of the policies they pushed after we got old & helpless will be used on them when it's their turn, cuz the ones that follow them will think they're the ones in the way.

Boomers (I am one) have no legacy, no Creed, few significant accomplishments, and a pattern of spoiled bratness.

The dumbest voters in history. No changes in the Constitution can reasonably be attributed to Boomers. Thus, my grandfather had better representation in the Congress than I ever knew. My kids will be even worse off when it comes to representation.

The 435 Congress critters supposedly speak for 300 million Americans now. Almost 100 years ago, 435 Congressmen represented something close to half that population, or fewer.

I feel gypped, though I pay more for the privilege.

Even the 18 year old voting Right was given to this spoiled brat generation by our parents, who gave most of the slouches anything that they asked for.

Now the crybaby generation is going to screaming to the kids about their social security $$$$.

Thanks fellow Boomers for allowing the parents and grandparents to soon be sticking it up the a$$ of our kids.

This (our) Boomer generation ......in a word...sucks. On the other hand, the so called "greatest generation" is probably more fraudulent. Their best went down in the War, and hacks at the NEWS Business are busy making dough.

Color me cynical.

(I’m a Boomer, and I sanctioned this comment.)

Slouching Towards Gomorra; Modern liberalism and the American Decline": Robert H. Bork

Read this astute expose' regarding the Boomers influence on our modern society. Bork's account may be some years old, but it is now even more evident in our 21st century pop culture society.

Reviews.

"A must read for anyone who cares about the future of American society. Presents a provocative critical, and convincing picture of a culture careening out of control that must change its ways or face destruction." Senator Chuck Grassley.

" A brilliant blend of passionate conviction and sustained arguement. May be the most important book of the 90's". Michael York

A brilliant and alarming exploration of the darkside of contemporary American culture." Dr. William J. Bennett

"With his inimitablecombination of outrage and wit, Judge Bork has written the definitive account of America on the eve of the millennium. ranging through every aspect of our culture and society - sex and race, crime and welfare, religion and the the courts - his book is not only a comprehensive description of our condition, it is a profound analysis of its ideological and historical roots." Gertrude De Himmelfarb, Professor Emeritus of History. City University of New York.

Remember, boomers were born and raised by the Greatest Generation. We are a product of their aspirations for their children. The FDR generation was infused with socialist philosophy and gov’t largesse. What would you expect of the next generation raised on their parents’ defined benefit plans and the gov’t welfare net created by FDR? And, huge numbers of that generation were Democrats.

So cool it in condemnation of Boomers who have contributed to having one of the best economies ever in history. It’s easy to wear rose-colored glasses for the good old days, but life became much easier because of the inventions and innovations of the Boomer generation. Now, turn off your DVDs, your cell phones, your high definition TVs, put your white starched shirts back on (remember to take the cardboard out), throw out your microwave ovens, and yearn for the good old days.

The narcissism is palpable. Boomer devices, Boomer gadgets, Boomer money, Boomer self-worship. Boomer psychological dysfunction, Boomer emotional immaturity, Boomer spiritual bankruptcy. Sorry, I’m sick of it; it’s all yours.
