The earth has been warming since the last glacial maximum and will continue to warm until the next interglacial max.

That said, something interesting has been going on since 2001, although that's too short to know if we are entering a new phase. If it continues we may be entering a temporary cooling event like the Little Ice Age, since we don't seem to be at the next max, at least not by historical standards.

Why do these morons think most of north America isn’t still covered with ice?

“Global warming” has been going on for thousands of years.

Ice a couple miles deep! Thank God for global warming! When we return to the glacial part of the cycle, billions will die of starvation.

How exactly do inanimate objects conspire?

Try a dictionary. Here:

con·spire
v. con·spired, con·spir·ing, con·spires
v.intr.
     2.  To join or act together; combine:  Semisweet chocolate, cocoa powder, espresso, Cognac, and vanilla all conspire to intensify the cake's flavor.

What bothers me is how the left has glommed onto the idea that they know exactly what is happening, why it’s happening and what the outcome will be if we don’t take drastic actions ASAP.

I am all for taking care of our planet, it’s a gift from God and its destruction is up to him, until then we have an obligation to treat it kindly. But this thing of flying off the handle half-cocked is for the birds!

It's just lunacy. Lomborg nailed it. Even if you believe the data establish anthropogenic global warming (which I don't), if you take all the IPCC's models and data as true, full implementation of Kyoto would have a negligible impact on temperatures at a terrible cost to our economy and well-being. It's crazy what their trying to do.

Thanks for the ping ND. I have been posting articles direct from the Heartland Institute site since 3/1. This conference and the following initiatives that result can't get enough positive coverage.

Report #3 from the Global Warming Conference in New York City

Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate

"Man might be doing something to affect the level of change, and possibly the rate, but Earth and its atmosphere is too big to be changed by its inhabitants. Sure, you can change small areas of it for a short time, and the effects might be seen or felt half-way around the world a bit later, but eventually Mother Nature is going to handle the insult."

I think the basic problem when considering why people believe humans could so easily change the environment, is that most folks don't have a clue at all at just how BIG the Earth is.

When I had a dialog with some relatives about Global warming I asked them how large an area would the population of the Earth take up if we grouped them all together.

It was amazing to see their guesses. They averaged an answer of somewhere around half the land mass of the USA.

When we did the math they were astonished at how far off their estimates were.

Your questions point out their flaws.

Equally - note that even this “skeptic” - who presents many valid points in his summary - falls prey to the AGW’s own tactics:

Global Warming is clearly defined and is a valid observation - FOR ONLY TWO DECADES (1977 - 1998).

From 1998 -2008 (ONE DECADE) temperatures have been stagnant - he may argue the point to avoid the “global warming denier” label - but nobody can show ANY temperatures of ANY climate measurement increasing ANYWHERE after 1998 due ANY cause (man-made or solar or orbit or anything else..

Prior to 1977, temperatures varied globally regularly - and no animals went extinct and no plants went extinct.

Therefore, it is still ONLY valid to claim global warming is "real" and that amounted to 1/2 of one degree in 30 years - with the last ten years showing no change at all.

I know that global warming is true.

The Unicorns told me so and they are incapable of lying.

Over roughly the same time period ('94 to '04)the measurements of CO2 have climbed steadily from ~358 ppm to ~377 ppm. I don't know why the figures from '04 to '07 aren't available. I'm getting this from:

Atmospheric carbon dioxide record from Mauna Loa

20 parts per million (.00002) doesn't seem like a big increase to me, but supposedly the rise in temperatures was due to it, except the temperatures didn't rise after all. The litany of man made global warming dire predictions is resembling just what a litany is, an invocation of faith.
