“climate change hysteria heralds a new ‘age of unreason’...”

correction; “climage change hysteria heralds new opportunities for totalitarian, socialist revolutionaries.”

Sorry, that’s not even close to an explanation. There’s no sign of an 11 year cycle in temperatures, so sunspot numbers are not it. But the length of the cycle seems to affect climate, possibly through weather effects like changes in the jet stream. The mechanisms in sun and the effects on earth are poorly understood. Also the sun is almost unpredictable with the possible exception that SC25 (in the 2020’s) could be very low, stretched out and result in colder temperatures. In short, there’s no a lot to hang a hat on and the catastrophists would point to a bunch of sunspots and warmer temperatures with “you were wrong, therefore we are right”. I personally choose to ignore these predictions and concentrate on economic growth for whatever catastrophe comes along (e.g. asteroid impact).

Ultimately, economic growth is the answer to all of the world's problems. Only an affluent society can afford environmentalists.

But that's the rub. The greenies want to destroy affluence and shrink the economy. They may not state it that way, but that's a little like a man pouring water on a fire, claiming that it won't do anything to the fire.

If you disagree with the solar cycle theory, that's okay. I think we'll know soon enough if it's got merit. For a more detailed explanation read David Archibald's paper.

Personally, I don't know if it's accurate or not. However, it seems more plausible to me than AGW due to CO2 emissions.

"Green is the new red"

That's one phrase I'm going to be using.

No, really?

How come so much of this -- both sides -- seems to be emanating from across the Pond?

"Indeed, from the IPCC's predictions," he says, "we can calculate that the upshot of this great disaster facing the world might be that our great-grandchildren, instead of being slightly more than 4.8 times as well off as we are, would be only 4.7 times as well off."

So of course to fix that, the GoreBullists want to take, and are taking, measures that will likely result in them being 0.5 times as well off, if that.

Bastids!

Boy I *really* don't like the looks of that. I may have to move farther south to not only escape the ice sheets, I'm already farther south than they've ever gotten AFAIK, but just because my old bones don't much care for “chilly”, let alone “colder ‘n a well diggers a$$”.
