"The fossils therefore show that there has been a substantial and very intense cooling of the Antarctic climate after this time interval that is important for tracking the development of the Antarctic icesheet – a key factor in understanding the effects of global warming.

WHAT?!!! A global cooling disaster before mankind was around will help explain the predicted next global heating? For $500, Alex, who caused the freezing of Antartica? That would be: who is plate tectonics?

It was tropical before the great flood of Noah's time. One contributing factor being that there was a canopy over all the earth that kept the whole earth at fairly uniformed warm temperatures.

You should have put "Amen" after your comment because it reflects religious belief rather than scientific evidence.

(ps. Why did you feel the need to interject your personal religious belief into a thread discussing science?)

Mid-Miocene cooling and the extinction of tundra in continental Antarctica

Link to follow up, open access article on the thread's subject, you might want to check its abstract or more.

Anywhere would be much warmer. You can’t get much colder there.

So the old Antarctic birds, bark, and trees aren't there any more?

Why?

Did the boids just eat, sit, and leaves?

LOL! Reminded me of an old aussie joke about wombats - but it's to naughty to repeat here.

Punchline: A wombat eats roots and leaves. I'll let you work out where the comma should be.

Did the boids just eat, sit, and leaves?

not really, they left lots of little ostracods behind before they flew away...

By the looks of things under the trees, the boids dropped more than just leaves .....

Folks, don’t forget continental drift. Antarctica always wasn’t there. The continents on the Earth MOVE, abet slowly. The question which should have also been addressed is where was Antarctica located when this fossil was formed?

These fossils are 14 million years old. 14 my bp, the middle miocene, Antarctica was in a position very similar to the present day. The East Antarctica ice sheet was beginning to form. Antarctica was warmer than today, but still not a place to build a beach home.
