I expect Obama to get somewhere like 96-99 percent of the black vote. The addition of Powell would likely pull 2 percent at best of the Obama black vote to McCain. If he wants to reach out to a minority voting block, it has to be hispanic, but I am not aware of any that are VP material in the Republican party.
Exactly if McCain is going to try to play Dim group identity games, he needs to go with a woman particularly Palin. Powell would attract exactly zero votes.
Yes sir!
*stands at attention, salutes, does an about face and immediately goes to fill out voter registration card*
I don’t really agree with Powell on all that much, but please, please let it happen. Powell would have to be diseased for months before his mental ability would sink to that of Obama. And, Powell has actually had real jobs, with real challenges. Want a good laugh? Think of Obama in the military (for the one week it would take for them to kick him out).
I would be OK with Powell. More so than I would be with Romney to tell the truth. Not because I am in love with his positions, but simply because he is a hard-nosed practical man with good common sense who was a very successful Army officer before he was Secretary of State.
Romney is just a blank to me.
Regardless, I still think he’s going to choose Lieberman. No, I don’t want that to happen, but I still think it will. Not only that, I think it has been McCain’s plan from the beginning.
“...and 94% of freepers will not vote.”
Be sure to count ME in that 94%.
I refuse to vote for a BABY KILLER.
If that doesn’t bother you, I pity YOU.
Yeah, but, she’s GOT to be older than 71, isn’t she? Who’s 4th in line?
thanks pal. I’m not a fan of McLame either, but he was elected by the GOP. I was in Iraq watching the results and couldn’t believe it. He is our man and we have to back him and stand behind him. When he is wrong on issues we will protest, and voice our concerns in order to get him to change course. We can not afford to have the alternative, OBAMBI!

Only if he gets some Ron Paul defections. Barr is nuttier than Ross Perot on LSD.
What are YOU smoking?
It would be disastrous. Besides Powell is black and most likely voting fro Obama. Powell is really a Democrat complete with advocating abortion.
The Dems are trying to paint him as Bush-McCain (not even McCain-Bush, mind you) and he's not going to give them ammo for that. I'm sure he's insulted by it.

McCain born 1936
Powell born 1937
Romney born 1947
Pawlenty born 1960
“He would do far better to select a female VP and woo some of Hillarys disgruntled supporters.”
I don’t agree with this kind of politics. I think McCain should pick the person (man or woman, black or white) he thinks is best qualified. But if we’re going to play this game, don’t forget that Condi Rice is both black and female.
IMHO, it would be a bad pick for McCain for 3 reasons:
1) Powell is only a year or so younger than McCain. He’d reinforce the age issue, not relieve it. That would also likely mean no clear GOP successor in 2012 if McCain wins.
2) Powell doesn’t have much in the way of domestic policy experience. McCain’s already seen as having an edge in foreign policy. He could use someone with economic bona fides or a pro-energy background.
3). IMHO, Powell is unlikely to move the numbers in key voting blocks. He’s left of the conservative base on a number of issues, and I think it very doubtful Powell will give McCain inroads into the African-American vote.
If there is any truth to this (I’m skeptical), it’s only for the publicity. It’s not going to happen. The Tom Ridge ruse was simply to play up McCain’s maverick image. If this is real, it’s just more jist for the talking heads, perhaps to deflect publicity for Joe Biden.
Can you imagine that blowhard Biden trying to take on Powell in a debate? LOL
That being said, I think we need someone younger.
