25% does sound like quite a bit over a decade but I wonder how long we’ve been able to measure such things. It may be pretty much the standard.

I believe the intensity of the solar wind has lessened somewhat in recent years, and this would account for the movement of the heliopause.

Also, these structures are extremely tenuous and are affected by the magnetic field of the sun and the local galactic magnetic field. This makes them subject to variability in size and shape.

Interesting.

Go to the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) classroom at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/classroom/classroom.html - it doesn't even mention the heliosphere in the information about the sun.

They have a fact sheet that discusses helioseismology, but doesn't talk about the heliospere either. It says, Clues on the solar interior come from studying seismic waves that are produced in the turbulent outer shell of the Sun and which appear as ripples on its surface. This technique, called helioseismology...

Seems like they'd have something so important (?!) in a featured spot.

Note the time frame! This article addresses just the past decade of trends in the solar front.

Over the past DECADE, global temperatures on average have DECLINED slightly, (not risen!); but over the previous 28 years (from the low point near 1972 to the high in 1998).

So the century-long trend (rising from 1900 to 1940, falling from 1945 to 1972, rising from 1972 to 1998) remains valid over a 70 year periodicity.

The heliosphere is approximately 100 times the diameter of the earth's rotation. For us to see the effects this close would be catastrophic. That whole inverse square law thing...
Last sentence of the article “It is likely that there are natural variations in solar wind pressure and over time it will either stabilise or start going back up.”

I think about 6 years ago The Voyagers started to get out there and get the first real measurements. At one point they thought one of them had left the Galaxy, but then they changed their minds and I think it is supposed to leave late this year or early 2009.

Doesn’t the Bible say in Revelation that in the days of tribulation the sun will scorch the earth or something to that effect? Maybe we really are close to the end times, I will think so if Obama wins.

There is a very high energy galactic radiation that is dangerous to living things.

“Around 90 per cent of the galactic cosmic radiation is deflected by our heliosphere, so the boundary protects us from this harsh galactic environment.”

The heliosphere is created by the solar wind, a combination of electrically charged particles and magnetic fields that emanate a more than a million miles an hour from the sun, meet the intergalactic gas that fills the gaps in space between solar systems.

At the boundary where they meet a shock wave is formed that deflects interstellar radiation around the solar system as it travels through the galaxy.

THAT phrase above IS the “link to” and the “CAUSE OF” the so-called “global warming” .

Best current theory is that global temperature is affected by the degree of cloud cover - controlled in part by the amount of very small water vapor nuclei - which are affected by the amount of cosmic rays intercepting the atmosphere - which is controlled by the amount of shielding available FROM cosmic rays - which is controlled by the sun's electro-magnetic shielding - which (in this article) is part and parcel (and participant) in the solar wind levels.

Look at the current trend OVER the past decade: very low activity (from 2007 until now) correspond directly to MUCH reduced solar shielding, greater cosmic ray flux, greater cloud cover, more energy reflected from the upper atmosphere, and thus lower surface temperatures overall.

Greater solar activity? More shielding, lower cosmic ray interactions, less cloud cover, more incident solar radiation, and higher temperatures - as occurred (on average) between 1972 and 2006.

Well, techically, He only promised Noah that he would never destroy the earth by flood again.

That promise DOES, however, leave open the promise of Revelations abotu signs and wonders “above”. And destruction by fire.

ahh...maybe this is the real cause of “global warming.”

Many a truth is spoken in jest.

Seems that cosmic rays cause clouds on earth, which cool the earth by reflecting sun light. As the bubble gets smaller, the earth grows cooler, which is exactly the behavoir we have been observing over the last decade.
