“No they helped. The American people decided.”

President Bush has one the lowest Presidential approval ratings in history, and you think he helped??

“America has been moving left over the past years.”

This leftward move did not just happen by accident. It was brought about by the government school establishment, the media, Hollywood and the federales in DC. All of which are encouraged, funded and perpetuated by the liberal socialist Republican and Democrat establishments.

I do not disagree with you. It is the state we find ourselves in. And for the reasons you list. Schools, media Hollywood, etc.

Congress and our elected representatives have made the slow march left over time. Now we must make that same march back to the right. And it will be slowly.

Bush helped by not sticking with conservative principles and reaching across the aisle. Not vetoing bills, not standing firm on other issues besides terrorism and Iraq/Afghanistan. He bet his mark on history on those issues alone. Not conservatism.

Neither Bush 41 or Bush43 were conservatives ... they were centrists. Clinton could be considered a centrist. Obama well that remains to be seen, his rhetoric is Marxist.

There is no magic bullet to make the change quickly. One step, one principle at a time moving back to center and then further to the right..

Although the doctrine of stare decisis does not prevent reexamining and, if need be, overruling prior decisions, "It is . . . a fundamental jurisprudential policy that prior applicable precedent usually must be followed even though the case, if considered anew, might be decided differently by the current justices.

It sounds to me as though Steele is an advocate of the law. I wish more judges could say the same rather than legislating from the bench.

From all I can gather that he has said and done, he is definitely pro life.

Pro-life Republicanism is mainstream of America

Q: African-American. Republican. Catholic. Pro-life. Does that put you in a little box?

A: It puts me in the mainstream of America, baby. What you just laid out is one way to describe Michael Steele. The other way to describe him is he's a brother who cares about the working man and woman. As an African-American, I think it's time that we respect the fact that there is a wide range of opinion and diversity of thought. Kweisi Mfume doesn't represent every black voice in Maryland. I don't represent every black voice in Maryland. And Ben Cardin certainly doesn't either. The reality is that this will be an election about voices, and the people of this state will get to hear a lot of voices. They'll gravitate to the one that resonates in their hearts and in their minds.

But, I'm really not interested in a holy war over the subject. To me what's important is would he be a good RNC Chairman and I believe that he would.

“Get rid of open primaries”

And front load red states in the primaries, First up; Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma. followed by Idaho, Utah, South Carolina, Arizona and Arkansas.

The bluer the state, the later the primary.

Steele is a good Republican for the state of Maryland, but I’m not sure based on comments he made about the Bush Administration or Rumsfeld that he could be labeled the “full spectrum conservative”. Go back to his Meet the Press debate with Ben Cardin. I have the sinking suspicion that had Steele won that Senate race, he would be referred on this site to other RINO’s like Lindsey Graham, Snowe, Collins, Coleman, etc.

Dead on, from my perspective. Steele is a weak conservative at best; I think people like him because he's black and a republican.

“Bush helped by not sticking with conservative principles and reaching across the aisle.”

Do you realize how obtuse this statement is?

Bush aided in the destruction of the Republic by ignoring the rule of law, imposing domestic disarmament of our veterans, signing of unconstitutional legislation, leaving our borders open, overseeing the destruction of the dollar, and creating an apparatus which could very easily be converted to use for domestic tyranny. He was and is an absolute disaster for conservatism, for the Constitution and for America.

“There is no magic bullet to make the change quickly. One step, one principle at a time moving back to center and then further to the right..”

Yes, there are some very basic things. Obey the oath of office and the Constitution. Veto legislation which undermines the Constitution or socializes the economy. Use the bully pulpit to enunciate Christian and conservative values, instead of undermining them with jingoism and newspeak.

You sound more a Libertarian than a Conservative. Bush wasn’t great but he isn’t evil. He was a disaster for conservatism, just like his father ... but the American public bought it. Hook, line and sinker.

Your very basic things are exactly the one step at a time the President (if we get a conservative one) and the Congress (if they can become conservative, regardless of party) can do. ONE STEP AT A TIME.

Your points are wasted on the President-Elect.

“You sound more a Libertarian than a Conservative.”

How you came to that conclusion absolutely escapes me.
