Chicago politics (and IL) was corrupt long before Big Al hit town. Like back to the Chicago Fire in 1871.
Even Wiki gives a ‘fairly good’ run down on it.
(You do know I was kidding about the French, but the corruption almost goes back that far.)
I wasn't being entirely serious either.

I’m not so certain that “the boyscout” Fitzgerald can be trusted to follow the corruption wherever it leads.
His timing on shutting down the sale of the senate seat is suspicious. Nothing would have been lost by letting it go until money changed hands.
