What does "locally" mean? I was around for the Hebgen Lake Quake and that's pretty "local" to Yellowstone. It shook Yellowstone up pretty good and even changed the schedules of many geysers when underground "plumbing" got rearranged. It killed 27 campers when the side of a mountain peeled off and buried them while they were asleep. It created Quake Lake by damming a major stream. It was felt clearly several hundred miles away.
Earthquakes of all sizes can be expected in the entire Yellowstone region. Their time scale is very different than that of human beings, however, and during our puny, short lifespans we never seem to be truly aware of the constant danger beneath our feet -- except those of us who live in California and Alaska, maybe.

The orange shapes in this image represent the magma chamber -- a chamber of molten and partly molten rock -- beneath the giant volcanic crater known as the Yellowstone caldera, which is represented by the rusty-colored outline at the top. The red rectangular slab-like feature is a computer-generated representation of molten rock injected into the magma chamber since mid-2004, causing the caldera to rise at an unprecedented rate of almost 3 inches a year, according to a new University of Utah study. In reality, the injected magma probably is shaped more like a pancake than a slab. The two rusty circles within the caldera outline represent the resurgent volcanic domes above the magma chamber.

Sort of like the earthquake swarm below Mammoth Mountain in the Sierras in the late 80’s, and the mid 90’s and 2004. What does it mean besides a swarm of earthquakes?
Yellowstone had swarms in 1977, 1985, 1995, 1999, and 2004 with the largest swarm of 3000 quakes in 3 months in 1985.
We’re all still here.

On the bright side, if the Yellowstone Mega Volcano blows, the economy wont matter.

‘At the heart of Yellowstone’s past, present, and future lies volcanism. Catastrophic eruptions occurred here about 2 million years ago, then 1.2 million years ago, and then 600,000 years a go. The latest eruption spewed out nearly 240 cubic miles of debris. What is now the park’s central portion then collapsed, forming a 28- by 47- mile caldera (or basin). The magmatic heat powering those eruptions still powers the park’s famous geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, and mud pots. The spectacular Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River provides a glimpse of Earth’s interior: its waterfalls highlight the boundaries of lava flows and thermal areas. Rugged mountains flank the park’s volcanic plateau, rewarding both eye and spirit.’

When there is the increased possibility of a huge catastrophe, I am torn between stocking up on food, water, and fuel or ammunition. If I have a lot of the three former items, I will need a lot of ammunition to protect the stockpile. If I have a lot of ammunition, I can get food, water, and fuel. Decisions, decisions. Woe is me.

There was a show in the past year on either Discovery or the History Channel, discussing Super Volcanoes. In the case of Yellowstone, the entire park is the caldera, making it the largest. It appears to have erupted on a 60,000 year cycle, IIRC, and it's been over 60,000 years since the last eruption.
A few years back, it was noticed that on one end of a lake, the water had risen, overtaking an area of trees. A survey was done and the data compared to one done around 1929 (IIRC), and it shows that the lake WATER was not rising, but one end of the ground UNDER the lake was rising, pushing the water the other way.
If Yellowstone blows, it will take out the entire bread basket of the US, pumping enough material into the atmosphere to have a winter that lasts years. The economy? gone. Our current just in time inventory levels of food and medicine? Gone. And so on and so on.
Goes to show you how powerless we really are.

"I posted this story almost a day ago. And no one thinkks anything of it. No such activity of this frequency has taken place at Yellowstone in a very very long time. It is significant."
Indeed. I learned about Yellowstone years ago when I was living in CO and my in-laws decided to move to Cody, WY. By happenstance I learned everything I ever wanted to know about the Yellowstone caldera. It scared the shit out of me. But I was just a son-in-law. My words fell on deaf ears.

Oops....Think I was off a decimal place. I think the eruptions are on a 600,000 year cycle.
