I knew this was hot but...
Dinosuars and tropical plants have been found on the North Slope of alaska and they date from 100s of millions of years ago. the only thing emitting CO2 was volcanos and Ford Fairlanes!

The earth has done a partial polar flop at least once. I believe they have seen fossils of ferns in the Antarctic, too.

And why is it called “Greenland”?

It also provides additional evidence that a rapid influx of carbon dioxide some 90 million years ago was the likely cause of a super-greenhouse effect that created extraordinary heat in the polar region. Where has all the CO^2 gone,
Long time ago?
Where has all the CO^2 gone,
Long time passing?
Gone to forests, everyone;
When will they ever learn?
Gone to limestone, everyone;
When will they ever learn?
From Climate History
The climate during the Paleocene (60-65M years ago) was much warmer than today. Palm trees grew in Greenland and Patagonia. The Mangrove swamps of southern Australia were located at 65 degrees south latitude.
Now, let's move back to late Cretacious, -100 to -85 M years ago, in round numbers:
During the Late Cretaceous the global climate was warmer than today's climate. No ice existed at the Poles. Dinosaurs migrated between the Warm Temperate and Cool Temperate Zones as the seasons changed.
Well, maybe this was just a couple of 'catastropic blips' on the world's climate? Nope!
Oh, my gosh, golly gee!
We are WAY below "NORMAL" on the scale of earth's temperatures!
Wonder when they're going to try to stop the "Global Plate Drift" that is "devasting" several areas of the globe, "destroying" coastlines; causing earthqaukes; 'fueling catastrophic volcanic activity...?

Facinating, a cold blooded reptile used to thrive in the arctic. Fred Flintstone’s car must have been a more horrendous CO2 spewing behemoth than Algor realized.

Influx of carbon dioxide? From where? Fresh water turtles floating across salt water oceans? Sure, maybe on little rubber rafts.

Even if you accept the premise that the “rapid” influx of huge amounts of C02 caused this warming, it was obviously so catastrophic that it makes a mockery of anthropogenic warming! not just dead polar bears but tropical freshwater turtles!

The last place scientists expected to find the fossil of a freshwater, tropical turtle was in the Arctic. But they did. Well, we now have a pretty good idea of why it went extinct...must've been tough trying to beat out the armoured whale.
Cheers!

..."We found this turtle right on top of the last flood basalts-a large stretch of lava from a series of giant volcanic eruptions," says Tarduno. "That leads us to believe that the warming may have been caused by volcanoes pumping tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere. There's evidence that this volcanic activity happened all around the planet-not just the Arctic... And now all I want to know is, what caused the 'volcanic activity all around the planet...'?

Could impact cause a volcano on Earth?
answered by Chuck Wood

Univ. of North Dakota
A big enough impact might trigger volcanic activity, and one scientist suggested that that might be the origin of Iceland, which is very big compared to other ocean hot-spots.

Was the Aurora Turtle on a post? It was made by Oldsmobile.
Which is why it's extinct. ;-)
