Not sure what you mean by "truly" understanding.
Man is not fully capable of understanding anything, but understands many things partially.
At the least we partially understand spaghetti, thus either this monster has nothing to do with spaghetti or whatever association he has with spaghetti is a way in which we understand him, albeit not fully.
