Anchorage.....so a Krakatoa event is not very appealing. LOL!
Do you have face masks, bottle water and eye wash, and an extra air filter for your wheels? if not you should get on over to Walmart before the rush.
I would imagine Alaskans are, in general, much more prepared than those of us in the lower 48.
But good advice no matter what!
No extra air filters for my wheels....been thinking about them for the last 5 hours. Should have done something about it earlier.
Peter Cervelli, Alaskan Volcano Observatory, four explosions so far. Expect activity to continue for weeks or months. No ashfall in any major cities yet (underline YET). There already have been and will be more flight delays and re-routes

Thanks for the update, and with that, I need a couple hours sleep before work.
Well I suggest you get some clothes on and drive down to Walmart. Now I happen to be a mechanic, first off if you are thinking about driving around after an ash dusting that your air filter will get plugged up quick, the saving grace for now is that it will stick to the snow first and won;t be much of an issue.
What will happen later is after breakup and the roads dry out, the winds kick up and THATS when we will have issues, because thats when it really gets stirred up in the air.
If you don’t plan on driving much you will be OK, its only if you are actually driving and its airborne. The shelves last I looked were all restocked with filters again after the first alert, so mostly everybody already do have a spare.
Alaska Airlines has canceled 19 flights out of SeaTac to Anchorage... ash plumes reported to 55,000 feet, but as of yet, heading north of Anchorage 100 miles away...
I was listening to “Car Talk” yesterday, and they said to put panty hose in front of the air intake in an emergency.
I was a service manager at the Grand Auto service center in 1992 in Anchorage and that was exactly what I was telling many people to do when we ran out of air filters shortly after Mt. Spurr erupted and its just across the inlet from Anchorage.
These newer cars with fuel injection need a very clean air supply, and diesels even more so, and an air filter can be washed, its not as efficient afterward but can work.
On a lot of new cars and trucks there is now an inside “cabin air filter” that filters air from the heater/ac, most people are unaware they have one, it will most definitely need to be replaced, as of lately though they cost more than the one for the engine, I would wash it instead.
I’ve heard of people making their own cabin filters out of furnace filters. Much cheaper I hear.
Thats an excellent idea! I priced one for my 2002 Silverado at $25, I can get the Tuff-Guard oiled premium filter for the motor for only $15, go figure.
Now I have me a project tomorrow.
Likely the highway up to Fairbanks that passes Denali will get hit hard. Those folks are fairly isolated from a lot help.
The link is good. The camera will not show much, if able, until nearly Noon, East Coast and 9 am West Coast. Right now, they are in the dark up there.
Its gone quiet, almost a flat line on the seismic recorders, and I am honestly worried about that, I would rather see little squiggles and jumps because thats telling me its venting off, but whats happening deep down below?
Is it building up pressure?
I was right we just had another eruption at 4;30, about 13 minutes ago.
Looks like the events are getting larger according to the seismic charts, I wish there was a low light camera available to see what was happening, or an infrared sat image.
The one happening NOW is also longer in duration.
