It would be maddening to discover oil and gas reserves on Mars. Knowing it was there with no way to utilize it would be incredibly frustrating.

Wouldnt it be wild if Mars were found to contain vast reserves of oil and natural gas?and our congress bans it drilling there before we can get there.

possible to create oil from methane using high temp and pressure High temperatures and pressures break down oil into smaller molecules, not the opposite.
We do it in refineries today; it is called thermal cracking. We use it to break down more of the heavy hydrocarbons into lighter ones like those in gasoline and diesel.

Aren’t serpentine and olivine both basically forms of jade?

On Earth the gas is made mostly by animals as a by-product although it can also be produced naturally in the absence of life2.
Most of the methane percolating up from deep within the earth both on land and at sea is from abiogenic sources.

Hogland at Enterprisemission.com has some interesting articles on the mars-methane-life link.
