“2,500 scientists drawn from the rolls of the science advancement association, which includes teachers, administrators and others involved in science as well as researchers.”

So, the “scientists” that they refer to consist of a sample of one organization that includes “teachers, administrators, and others involved in science”. No wonder they can get the numbers that they do. Typical NYT propaganda, lying with statistics. I wonder if they mean the Association for the Advancement of Science?

The role of scientists has partly shifted from discovering things that improve human welfare (in medicine, engineering, agriculture, etc.) to telling people what to do, through regulations on the environment, food and drink, and other areas.

Bing! Bing! Bing! We have a WINNER.

One of the chapters in my forthcoming book, "Seven Seismic Events that Shaped America," is how Ike's heart attack led the government to first advise, then try to control, diet in the name of public health. You'd be amazed, but the debate 40 years ago over carbs vs. meat (Atkins) looked EXACTLY like the "Global Warming" debate does today, with the "deniers" who said meat wasn't that bad losing out on grants and being shunned. If anything, the science has moved AGAINST carbs and in favor of fats and proteins, but the public policy is still based on an obsolete dietary view that was never proven, let alone agreed to.

Like today, however, the "deniers" lost funding, were gradually extracted from public policy debates and forums (i.e., New York Times) and everywhere except the actual scientific journals themselves.

There is even discussion as to whether fossil fuels are biotic at all. The abiotic origin of oil theory says otherwise. Who are the biggest proponents of that theory the Russians? They are currently drilling at more than 40,000 ft.
The fact that we find oil at depths below where any fossils should be located. Makes it harder and harder to believe it is biotic. We have also found hydrocarbons on Titan, a moon of the planet Saturn.
Since we are being force fed global warming based on a particular premise. That it is a fossil fuel. Should we not find out if is it, or if it is not created by the very planet we reside upon.
The other problem with their arguement is that they use political science. They base their arguement on an assumption pushed by people who need funding for research. Hmmmm When buying anything like snake oil, you better do some research yourself.
It is far more likely, that water vapor, and the sun have a more direct effect on the temp of the Earth. Carbon helps flora and fauna, and accounts for a very small percentage of gas in the atmoshpere. Any graph of temp vs. carbon over long periods of time, do not reveal a relation between the two.

I trained as a scientist as a undergraduate, though not a scientist now. THough global warming MIGHT exist, CO2 is not a pollutant. The Connection between the two is very much in debate IMO doubtful. Most of the elevated levels of CO2 are from natural causes, i.e. volcanoes. Public policy SHOULD NOT BE MADE on a hunch.

They are currently drilling at more than 40,000 ft.

Do you have documentation that oil exists(ever existed) 8 miles below the surface?

It doesn’t say how deep the actual oil producing wells are though...I’ll bet no where near 40,000 ft....THis is very interesting...

What a joke of a survey.

From your PDF link - third page excerpt:

It would be interesting to see what professions they include in the category of ‘scientist.’

It said the population of 2500 "Scientists" was "cientists drawn from the rolls of the science advancement association, which includes teachers, administrators and others involved in science as well as researchers."

Association? Only one? yup, only one: the American Association for the Advancement of Science. That means the members of the "scientist" set is, at least in one demographic, self-selected. AAAS is "open to all" and has become heavily politicized. For example, consider who was the keynote speaker at their 2009 Annual Meeting:

Al Gore speaks at the 2009
