Aaahhh, it was only the size of one of their larger cities, Gore-ville, I believe it’s called. I hope their FEMA wasn’t trained in New Orleans.

Just what I was going to say. Jupiter is our Solar System’s great protector. It has been sucking up junk since it became a planet.

“Pretty fricking scary that something that big slammed into Jupiter and we never saw it coming...”

What's scarier is the pickup-sized rock that missed us here on Earth last year by only 80,000 miles, and we didn't see it until it had gone by!

Look on the bright side, if it happened to earth you would never know it!

No, no. The meme is now Obama’s fault. It’s time for some revenge.

I love how people worry about this! If one hits, it will be painless.

Perhaps the initiator of the great flood, “fountains of the deep”, reformation of the earth, movement of continents, etc.

An impact like that, here on Earth, would probably embolden the Warmers. “See, we told you so!”

Don’t worry folks... Obama, Nancy and Harry are on top of things... they will bail out JM (Jupiter Motors), Jupiteran banks and insurance companies. Then they will introduce global warming laws, and universal health plans (and don’t you even think about opting out)...

Jupiter is still very far away. There are lots of things that cross his orbit that will never come anywhere near Earth. (And vice-versa).

The object that hit Jupiter was definitely not Earth sized, btw, the debris cloud was.

The object could have been an asteriod that got ejected from the asteroid belt, or more likely, a visitor from the Ort cloud or Kuiper belt, out beyond the orbit of Neptune. Every once in while, a piece of rock from out there is perturbed into an orbit that approachs closer to the Sun. When that happens it will soon either be ejected by gravitational interaction with Jupiter and the other gas giants or hit something. The something most likely to get hit is Jupiter, because of his large cross section and because his gravitational field acts like a cometary vacuum cleaner, sucking in anything that comes too close.

We are only now beginning to catalog all the junk out there.

Only if you’re within hundreds of miles of ground zero. The firestorms for the rest of us will be pretty awful. And if you survive those, the resulting starvation will be anything but painless. No hope of anything growing for years — how’s that for terminal desperation.

I suppose Obama-provided suicide could help in this case.

An “impact like that” would, of course, mean no more life on earth, ‘cause that impact was the size of earth according to the report.

But hey, you are right, one good strike from a space object here, and the Warmers would say that our climate change attracted the object or something no more ridiculous than the other garbage that spews from them.
