I was thinking the same thing...
And don’t forget that with judgement can come forgiveness.
The other side attaches meaninglessness to everything.
Could you explain exactly what you mean by religionist?
Thanks. I’d been looking for that quote.
Not always true. There are a fair number of libertarian atheists, and their beliefs are predicated that what you do is limited at the point where it starts to harm others.
Of course, the nub is defining 'harm' - but the concept of limited behavior is not always alien to atheists.
“But I also find the reasoning in the essay to be weak as well, I think is it quite a logical stretch to go from Myer’s position to an admission that your side is correct.”
The article was just saying that Myers agreed with them on this certain point. Not that all evolutionist are without morality but that their worldview has no logical basis for morality. They weren’t saying that because he admitted this that it proves the world was created in 6 days.
I disagree with that jump. Meyer is ONE evolutionist, and he is no spokesman for those who think evolution is valid science.
You said “Almost all atheist-hating christian religionists who attempt to masquerade their religion as science blow their cover sooner or later.”
From the article
“Please pray for P.Z. Myers and others like him, who seem to be struggling spiritually”
AND
“For the Christian, though, we should not be surprised (1 John 3:13), but saddened by attacks and for those that continue to reject the Lord Jesus Christ. But the Lord is patient:
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)”
YEAH! I see what you mean. Those HATEFUL people at Answers in Genesis. ;)
When push comes to shove, those libertarian atheists will chuck their Ludwig von Mises tomes out the window and declare themselves holy in their own eyes.
You gotta be an atheist to be a Nietchze or a Hitler or a Stalin.
You can’t believe in God and vote for Obama and you can’t believe in God to be a mass murderer.
Now that I think of it, you can’t believe in God and participate in abortion. Note I said “believe in God” and not “PRETEND to believe in God.”
With atheists, for better or worse, all bets are off becuase when the rubber hits the road, the concern of the atheist is only what is best for the atheist.
Your atheist buddies will sell you out, if in a pinch. If you’re the atheist, you know I’m telling it like it is.
LOL...that must be why ICR stands for the Institute for Creation Research, and CMI stands for Creation Ministries International, and AiG stands for Answers in Genesis!!!
Unlike your Temple of Darwin co-religionists, creationist scientists are very open about their starting assumptions.
“I disagree with that jump. Meyer is ONE evolutionist, and he is no spokesman for those who think evolution is valid science.”
Right, Answers in Genesis believes that atheists have no logical basis for their morality and Meyers agrees with them on that. That was the point of the article. Not that he speaks for all evolutionists or atheist. Not that because he said this that all evolutionist have now been proven wrong. Simply, that he agreed with them.
LOL! Of course, if you give him a hug, he might just stab you in the back just for the fun of it.
So would many Christians that I have known. Character is a rare quality nowadays, and that is what it really comes down to - many talk about belief and faith, but few stand up and practice it when it hurts.
Amen!
[[Not that all evolutionist are without morality but that their worldview has no logical basis for morality.]]
They have morality, but it’s a selective subjective morality, and they deny an objective universal morality code, claiming morality arises from cultural ‘norms’ but this has been disproven- (they scream about Christians tryign to ‘impose Christian morality’ on everyone else, but the atheists want to impose their subjective slective morality on everyone else themselves)- the atheist has no objective morality standard to stand on, and their morality is really nothign more than a desire to avoid the objective universal morality code which they know to be true, and which convicts them of crimes agaisnt God. Their ‘morality code’ changes to suit their ever changing indulgences
The fact that Myers and others continue to blast Christianity reveals that they really do believe in God, but want to suppress that knowledge.
And there is no basis to support this.
Most flawed logic has such a jump in it somewhere - the rest of the article may seem logical, but when a core premise is flawed, so is the resultant conclusion.
“So would many Christians that I have known.”
Then they aren’t true Christians. A large percentage of people in the United States would say that they are Christians. A Christian is a follower of Christ, someone who loves Christ. The Bible says “if you love me keep my commmandments” and “you shall know them by their fruit” and “the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.”
A person who is exhibiting these characteristics of Christ likeness is not a true Christian. Not that we always succeed on every point but our lives should be characterized by these qualities. When we fail we should repent.
I am sorry. We were arguing two different points. I finally see your side.
“The fact that Myers and others continue to blast Christianity reveals that they really do believe in God, but want to suppress that knowledge.”
I would agree that you cannot take an admission like Myers and come to this conclusion. I am not so sure it is a conclusion though as much as opinion wrongly stated. Obviously we can’t know the mind of another.
This seems to be an after thought in the article not the premise.
The premise is that atheist have no basis for morals. That is what Myers admitted ergo Myers admits that AIG is correct. That is the point I thought we were arguing before. When I went back to re read our posts, I saw our disconnect.
Don’t mention it :o)
