A lot of the damage Krakatoa did was when then empty cone collapsed and pushed all the water inside out through the vents into the sea creating one big Tsunami.

“Anak Krakatoa is jes a little ol’ cinder cone. Those can certainly erupt but they don’t go boom.”

When I was there in early 70s doing geodetic survey work in the area we sailed thru the straights and close to the cone which was only 150 or so feet high then. There was a single palm tree growing at the waters edge. The straights average about a 60 ft depth. The hole in the ocean floor around it was over 300 ft deep IIRC. It has grown at a prodigious rate since then. With this one anything is possible.

If it really blows, it will only provide an excuse for the global warmers to justify why their predictions of warming were total failures. Never mind that there’s been cooling for at least 10 years already...

The movie that was done based on the memoirs of the family living in Sumatra at the time of the 1800s eruption was just fascinating!

The small brown island is Anak Krakatau which is erupting.
Krakatoa which broke up during the big eruption of 1883 is now the big one which is quite. The caldera is the always the main concern which isn’t a real concern now.
Usually volcanoes with caldera’s have about 10 normal eruptions for every time the caldera goes.

Yellowstone and Mammoth Mountain are the two that are due to have caldera eruption. they are the ones we should be concerted about.

He’d plug up the vent, causing a MAJOR eruption [hot gas from two directions].

Krakatoa tends to explode every three or four hundred years or so. It’s not due for another two centuries.

Here is a comparison:

Our global warming emissions are a spit in the bucket in comparison, I am willing to bet.
