Wrong again. It was the 200-year-old pact the grizzly bears made with satan to insure a plentiful supply of pic-i-nic baskets.

Clearly this is was caused by global warming.
No but it could be from global cooling. One of my favorite classes in college was astronomy. The first thing the teacher said was " We live on a cooling planet in the freezing vacuum of space so never be surprised at the earth changing."

Farrell said that there is absolutely no connection between what is occurring in Yellowstone and the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti. The only explanation for this comment is that some idiotic reporter asked this question.

It's amazing how little we really know about the planet we live on, and how much of what we think we know can be proved wrong so completely and without warning.
Seems to me, and it's pure speculation, these continual swarms of relatively minor quakes serve to relieve pressure that if it were not relieved would lead to much more consequential releases of stress.
But then, what do I know?

Wonder why this hit the newspapers, as I thought that this was fairly typical for the Yellowstone area.
Probably because of Haiti

When Yellowstone "goes" the majority of the time, it's fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things.
People have this weird idea that Yellowstone is either not erupting, or destroying North America in a supervolcanic eruption, and there's nothing in-between.
Since the last supervolcanic eruption Yellowstone has had at least 30 eruptions ranging from a little bit of lava to Pinatubo-ish; the most recent was 70,000 years ago.

Seems to me, and it's pure speculation, these continual swarms of relatively minor quakes serve to relieve pressure that if it were not relieved would lead to much more consequential releases of stress. Depends of the source of the pressure. If it's from plate movement, little earthquakes are probably a good thing. If it's due to upwelling magma putting additional stress on the big chamber under Yellowstone, it's definitely a very bad thing.
I wonder if the ground temperatures are increasing.
