Just realized I misspelled the word “Earthquake” in my post. LOL Typing too fast, I guess.

If anyone wants to follow the local coverage:

I felt it (I am aboiut 30 miles west of Chicago). The bed shook. I thought my wife had awakened and was feeling frisky. No such luck. Just an earthquake.

I know where Oak Park is. I’ve been there a few times, actually...

The earthquake is probably the same one I remember feeling back in the mid-1980s. It was probably around 6:30 pm, but still kind of light outside IIRC. Anyway, I remember it because we were all sitting at the dinner table and the milk in my cup was vibrating, and you could hear a faint rumble, and the table kind of shook too. Really weird - like a HUGE truck had gone by the house or something... I had practice for our church choir that night and everyone said it was an earthquake - we hadn’t heard the news between dinner and getting me off to the church...

You must be a deep snoozer. We’re in West Chicago and all of us woke with a big jolt. It wasn’t very long, but very noisy and strong, like something having a big crash. Our kids in Cortland certainly felt it too.

The epicenter was in Virgil. The big-city media types have never heard of that town, so Sycamore was close enough.

Sycamore is the county seat in DeKalb County (it's common in Illinois; Woodstock is the county seat of McHenry County, etc.) and is close enough to DeKalb the town that the borders touch on Route 23/ (Route 23 is Sycampre Road in DeKalb and DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore.) My wife and I live in Mchenry County and are moving to DeKalb County soon. I wonder what this will do to real estate values in Sycamore, since it's been getting all the publicity as the earthquake capital in the last few hours.

Downers Grove.....there’s a name from my past.

Spent a bit of time there back in the mid 60’s while in the Navy and after I got out. Had my first Big Boy there.

LOL!

In the big picture, this tremor isn’t all that far from Yellowstone, which has been grumbling of late.

I’m a 1988 grad of NIU in DeKalb. Rode my motorcycle through Sycamore and surrounding towns hundreds of times. I worked in Schaumburg part time during summers, long weekends and other vacations. I miss the open space, the hot wind blowing through late summer corn. Rich farmland out there. Black dirt topsoil 10 feet deep or more in some places. Now I drive to DC every morning. Yuck.
