130 feet?!? If true, that’s a monster, one of the largest, if not he largest, ever recorded. They need to evacuate ALL the beaches in Mexico and Hawaii right now and wait until the threat passes before reopening them.
For reference, the tsunami in Thailand was about 20 feet.

A wave of 130 feet is of Biblical proportions. A 100 foot wave is the size of a 10 story building.
Upon hearing of the magnitude of this quake, I pondered how the Richter scale is logarithmic, and not linear.
Most of the reporters who seem to be covering this quake do not seem to grasp this concept. The them, an 8.8 quake is "one digit greater" than a 7.8 quake, which is one digit bigger than a 6.8 quake.
Not so. The difference in power of one gradient on the Richter scale is incredible.

Phuket Thailand got hit hard. (Phu is pronounced like in Winnie the Pooh.)
A friend was on the Island when it hit. She was in a hotel on a hill, so was safe, but was stranded on the Island for three days while they repaired the airport.
The earthquake actually moved Bangkok 1 1/2 inches to the north.

Lots of high ground on these islands. Unfortunately, people were probably occupying the low ground, right down near the sea:

130 foot Tsunami wave has hit Juan Fernandez Island swallowing the Island Juan Fernandez Island is very mountainous and reaches a height of 6562 feet. I doubt it was "swallowed". All of the Chilean Islands are very mountainous.

Unfortunately, people were probably occupying the low ground, right down near the sea: Note that only one side of the island would be hit by the wave, the other side would be virtually unharmed.

Phuket Thailand got hit hard. (Phu is pronounced like in Winnie the Pooh.) Whatever. All I know is, if I saw a wave anywhere near that big rolling toward me on the shore, I'd be like, "Phuket! I'm getting out of here!"
